Daniel Thoren says simply ‘getting to drive’ is the highlight of his 2018 RallyX Nordic season even after notching up his superb maiden podium result with a fighting performance in Grenland.
The Swedish racer joined Hedstroms Motorsport to drive a Volkswagen Polo in the Supercar class and has shown impressive strides over the opening three rounds, culminating in his breakout third place finish in Norway ahead of the summer break.
Debuting in Holjes with a creditable 12th position in the Intermediate Classification, Thoren followed this up with fifth next time out in Arvika to secure another strong haul of points, even if his semi-final hopes were ruined by an early incident.
There were to be no issues in Grenland though as Thoren powered to his maiden final appearance and winning a thrilling race-long battle with Andreas Carlsson to snatch an excellent podium result alongside Oliver Solberg and Oliver Eriksson.
A huge boost for Thoren, who sits tenth in the overall standings after his success, he says the result caps off what has already been a memorable year.
“The highlights for me in RallyX Nordic this season are of course to win two heats and then to be on the podium in just my third event,” he said. “This is way beyond what I could have dreamed of before the start of the year. In fact, just every time I get to drive it is a highlight.
“My goal for the rest of the season is to keep up with the others and to learn more and more how to drive competitively against some quick opposition.
“I must say thank you to Peter and Anders Hedstrom, they give me great support. We will just keep going the way we have started the year.”
