Bryntesson: This will be a really important weekend

RallyX Nordic title contender Thomas Bryntesson admits this weekend’s event could prove crucial towards this year’s championship battle due to the large influx of local talent joining the ranks this weekend.

With just two rounds of the season remaining – Kouvola, Finland and the Tierp Arena finale in Sweden on October 6-7 – Bryntesson is tied at the top of the standings with main rival Oliver Solberg, while the in-form Oliver Eriksson is just ten points further back in third.

To raise the pressure between the three adversaries, this weekend’s Kouvola round will see a huge 24 additional entries predominately from the Finnish Rallycross Championship that could steal points from the leading contenders.

With this in mind, JC Raceteknik’s Bryntesson admits there could be a lot to play for this weekend.

“I think this will be a really important event especially now there will be 32 Supercars competing so it is crucial for me to have a good race. For sure it is difficult to set the car up and get to know the track, but I like the challenge.”

A winner out of the box in Holjes, defending champion Bryntesson hasn’t stepped on the podium since but has remained consistent throughout to keep himself involved in the title battle.

“I’m confident,” he continued. “We lost a lot of points in Norway [Grenland] but the rest of the season we have had really good speed and been up there. Oliver is a tough competitor – you always need to be very fast and consistent and win every heat with him – maybe that is my thing to be consistent and for him to be really fast!”
