MIDDAY REPORT: Eriksson dominates in Kouvola

Oliver Eriksson is well placed to secure his first Intermediate Classification win of the RallyX Nordic presented by Cooper Tires season after triumphing in both Q1 and Q2.

Ahead of the midday break, Eriksson triumphed over Oliver Solberg and Thomas Bryntesson on the overall timesheets in Q1 before repeating the feat on track in a tightly-contested final race of Q2. The Olsbergs MSE driver holds a ten point advantage over his title rival Solberg coming into Q3.

With an influx of Finnish wild-cards swelling the entry list to 32 Supercars – resulting in seven packed qualifying heats – Jere Kalliokoski heads up the local challenge after setting the fifth and sixth fastest times in Q1 and Q2 respectively driving his Skoda Fabia, while Riku Tahko was seventh in the latter.

Other eye-catching performances from the morning included Andreas Carlsson setting the fifth best time in Q2, while RallyX Nordic debutant Csucsu sits ninth overall after a top ten showing in Q1 and Q2.

In the Supercar Lites class, Ben-Philip Gundersen picked up a pair of wins in Q1 and Q3 to defeat title rival Guillaume De Ridder in the Intermediate Classification. The Norwegian needs to remain within 30 points overall of De Ridder in the standings to keep the title fight alive to the final round – ahead of the semi-finals, the current margin between the pair is 24 points.
