Eriksson: I’ve nothing to lose in RallyX Nordic title showdown

Oliver Eriksson says he will place no additional pressure on himself in the fight for the RallyX Nordic presented by Cooper Tires title following a timely first win of the season in Kouvola.

The Swede picked up maximum points with a faultless performance in Finland as he topped the Intermediate Classification and eased to victory in the semi-finals before taking a controlled lights-to-flag win in the final.

In a year that has also seen him top the podium in the RX2 International Series, Eriksson was thrilled to get a RallyX Nordic Supercar success under his belt in such a comprehensive manner.

“It’s amazing, finally I have my first win of the season,” he beamed. “It is such a huge confidence boost for me. To come here and show that myself and Olsbergs MSE are right in the title fight this weekend has been really important and I am delighted with the result.”

With upwards of 6,500 fans packing the stands over the weekend, Eriksson commented “The atmosphere in Finland was been incredible too, it just inspired me to push on that bit more.”

Coming on the back of second place finishes in Grenland and Nysum, Eriksson’s winning success in Finland moves him to just six points shy of Solberg coming into the final round showdown to be held at the Tierp Arena on 6-7 October.

With Thomas Bryntesson also in the hunt 12 points behind Solberg, Eriksson nonetheless insists he won’t approach the final round in Sweden any differently.

“Now I turn my attentions to the title showdown where I have nothing to ose and everything to gain. I’m really looking forward to seeing what we can achieve at the Tierp Arena!”
