RallyX Nordic the perfect platform for Yellow Squad by Hansen CrossCar project – Kevin Hansen

It is already one of the most historic names in rallycross but the Hansen legacy is being prepared for an even brighter future following the unveiling of Yellow Squad by Hansen, which will compete in the RallyX Nordic presented by Cooper Tires CrossCar category this year.

Launched and managed by front-running World RX drivers Kevin and Timmy Hansen, Yellow Squad by Hansen’s mission is to encourage and develop young rallycross racers at a grassroots level by drawing upon the experience of the brothers’ multiple titles and victories on the international stage.

The team will make its competitive debut in the newly-established RallyX Nordic CrossCar category, which will for the first time make use of the   latest generation Cross Car (XC) machine. The team has plans to switch to the new TN5 XC developed by World Rally Championship star Thierry Neuville’s Life Live team later in the season.

As well as focusing on skill, speed and self-development behind the wheel, Yellow Squad by Hansen will also put emphasis into training, nutrition and communication off the track too.

“I have worked my way through the ranks and reached the highest levels of World RX and Timmy has had huge success too, so we wanted to take our experience of this and pass it on to drivers, give them tips and develop their skills at start of their racing career,” revealed 2014 RallyX Nordic Supercar Lites Champion, Kevin.

“We want them to be focused on the racing when they come into a weekend, without having to worry about the team or the car. We wanted to create a team that offers a driver a professional place for them to get the most out of themselves and work on their skills.

New-for-2019, RallyX Nordic will feature five racing categories across seven rounds and six events, with CrossCar joining RX Academy, Super Touring, Supercar Lites and Supercars in an expanded race weekend schedule as part of RallyX Nordic’s long-term plan to establish a formal career path for young drivers to progress through.

Indeed, Hansen says the opportunity to use RallyX Nordic’s platform – which features live television coverage and international standard venues – was a big factor in the decision to enter.

“RallyX Nordic is great championship and we chose it especially because of the way it creates an excellent proving ground for young drivers to progress their careers. Even if they don’t have big budgets, they can start in the new RallyX Nordic CrossCar class and race on world championship tracks. We feel it is the perfect place for youngsters to develop.”

A ‘new era’ for the Hansen dynasty, which begins with 14-time European Rallycross Champion Kenneth Hansen and has continued with the formation of the successful Team Hansen World RX outfit, Kevin says Yellow Squad by Hansen remains very much a family affair.

“Yellow Squad by Hansen is a new era for our family,” he continued. “This is the team myself and Timmy have created, but Mum and Dad are helping out with giving us tips on how to run a team efficiently, for instance.

“It is the next step for the Hansen family in rallycross, so it is exciting to be myself and Timmy working together, bringing out our experience, plus that of other parents.”

Asked why the team is named ‘Yellow Squad by Hansen’, Kevin reveals it is inspired by his distinctive Team Total Peugeot 208 WRX entry.

“I loved my livery in World RX and I felt it has become a strong identity for me. it got me attention and new fans, so we have taken the yellow theme to our team. I think it is a cool name, it’s a bit unusual and stands out, we are so proud of it.”
