Haug has semi-final in his sights as he joins RallyX on Ice line-up

Lars Erik Haug is the latest driver to commit to the 2019 RallyX on Ice presented by Cooper Tires festival, with the Norwegian keen to ‘try something new’ at Lake Åre in Sweden on 18-23 March.

Haug has competed in rallycross since 2005, most recently campaigning a Volvo 242 in Norway’s National class for under 2.4-litre cars. This year, the 33-year-old mechanic and workshop co-owner – who hails from Grua, just over 50km north of Oslo – will graduate to Supercar Lites machinery, with RallyX on Ice set to provide his first competitive test.

“I wanted to try something new this season,” he explains. “It was important to me to be able to compete on a level playing field, which RallyX on Ice provides. What’s more, since I gained my driving licence, I have always been fond of ice racing. Each winter, I go to a lake with a bunch of friends, to test our cars and skills.

“For RallyX on Ice, my goal is to reach the semi-finals and get a good feel for the car – and if I can make it into the final, that will be a bonus.”

The 2019 RallyX on Ice presented by Cooper Tires festival will comprise three events held over six days. Each round will feature a different track layout – including a high-speed oval – with fans encouraged to enjoy the high-quality racing amongst the excellent local facilities on offer.

Spectators at Åre can watch all the RallyX on Ice action free of charge, while those unable to attend can follow the excitement via a combination of social media and television broadcasts, details of which will be announced soon.
