‘Confident’ Jonsson eager to shine on home soil in 2019

Martin Jonsson is excited to continue his rallycross apprenticeship in 2019, as he prepares to tackle the three Swedish rounds of the fast-approaching RallyX Nordic presented by Cooper Tires campaign.

A newcomer to Supercar Lites last season – after participating in the popular ‘sampler day’ at Strängnäs Motorstadion in late 2017 – Jonsson joined the RallyX Nordic field for the Arvika and Tierp rounds, reaching the semi-final stage on both occasions. He then went one better by progressing through to the final on the last day of RallyX on Ice earlier this year on Sweden’s frozen Lake Åre – outperforming a certain Andreas Bakkerud along the way…

Now, the 31-year-old Swede is set to return to the fray with his Alfta Racing Team, having signed up to compete in both the double-header curtain-raiser at Höljes next weekend (18/19 May) as well as the Tierp finale on 21/22 September.

“Being our rookie season in Supercar Lites, last year was all about learning, mostly to get to know the car but also how adjustments worked on different surfaces and tracks,” explained Jonsson.

“The fantastic fourth place on the last day of RallyX on Ice this year meant so much to me and the whole team after all the hard work we put in, and the experience of driving on the ice gave me much more confidence in handling the car, which is one of the main things I will take with me into the upcoming summer season.

“Both myself and Alfta Racing Team are more ready than ever to go racing again! The competition in RallyX Nordic’s Supercar Lites class this year will clearly be tough, with a lot of really good drivers signed up, so our main goal is to reach the semi-finals – at least – and of course to keep building up that bank of experience.”
