‘Refreshed and re-energised’ Holmen back on-track in 2019

Following a year’s sabbatical from the sport, rising young Norwegian star Thomas Holmen is getting his career back-on-track in 2019, having signed up to contest three of the seven rounds during the forthcoming RallyX Nordic presented by Cooper Tires campaign.

Prior to a test at Höljes last week, Holmen had not sat in a rallycross car since the 2017 RX2 International Series season finale in South Africa. After taking a year out to recharge his batteries, the teenager is returning to the fray in the Supercar Lites class, having confirmed his participation in this weekend’s Höljes double-header curtain-raiser and at his local circuit of Finnskogbanen – just 25km from his hometown of Flisa – on 27/28 July.

Known for his infectious personality and natural enthusiasm, to say Holmen is excited to be back would be quite the understatement.

“It’s going to be so cool!” the 19-year-old exclaimed. “Being back in the car for the test was the best feeling ever, and it actually didn’t take as long as I’d expected to settle back in. Fraser McConnell and some of the RallyX Nordic regulars were also testing that day, and my lap times were comparable to theirs, which was really promising.

“Having been away for a year, I’m excited to compare myself against the current crop in a race situation. I’ve been doing a lot of practice on the PlayStation, and whilst I’d lost motivation and needed a break at the end of 2017, I’ve grown up in the meantime and it’s a more mature and focussed Thomas Holmen returning to the track. I’m refreshed, re-energised – and ready to go!”
