Haug hopeful of continuing to ‘close the gap’ in 2021

  • Norwegian bidding to build upon recent progress in the series
  • 35-year-old has signed up for full season of competition
  • Supercar Lites ace predicts ‘stronger and tighter’ field in 2021

Lars Erik Haug is aiming to build upon the progress he has made in RallyX Nordic over the past couple of seasons, after signing up to contest the full 2021 campaign in the Supercar Lites category.

Despite lacking experience compared to many of his rivals, in 2019, Haug reached the semi-final stage on three occasions in RallyX Nordic – a feat that he repeated at Arvika last year against one of the toughest Supercar Lites fields in recent memory.

After COVID-related restrictions forced him to miss the 2020 curtain-raiser – Höljes’ ‘All-Star’ Magic Weekend – the 35-year-old Norwegian is hopeful of getting a full complement of racing laps under his belt over the course of the coming months.

“We are looking forward to the new campaign, despite the COVID situation,” Haug said. “Since we had to stay home for a few races last year, we hope that we can participate in the full season this time.

“We have made some great progress over the last two years and have found more speed in the car, and now we have a better grip on the set-up for most of the tracks.

“We see the opportunity to close the gap to the drivers in front, so this could be a great year for us. With a new circuit on the calendar – OuluZone in Finland, which promises to be an interesting event – and more new drivers coming into the class, the competition looks sure to be stronger and even tighter than before. I’m excited for the challenge!”
