‘High expectations’ for Ekspjuth as Swede prepares for Supercar Lites debut

  • Swede set to step up from Supernational to Supercar Lites in 2021
  • ‘Driving style seems to fit me perfectly’, says Ekspjuth Motorsport ace
  • 26-year-old targeting ‘top spot on the podium’ over coming months

Martin Ekspjuth might be lacking in Supercar Lites experience when he makes his debut in the class at Nysum in May, but the Swede has made it very clear that he is aiming high in his maiden campaign in RallyX Nordic presented by Cooper Tires this year.

Born in Piteå – scene of next year’s Race Of Champions, which will once again feature Supercar Lites machinery – Ekspjuth has been competing in rallycross since 2017, achieving considerable success initially in the 2150cc category before graduating to 2400cc in 2018.

After the global COVID-19 pandemic obliged the 26-year-old to sit out the 2020 campaign, he is now fired-up to return to the track with his family-run Ekspjuth Motorsport team, embracing the new challenge that awaits in one of RallyX Nordic’s most fiercely-contested classes.

“It feels like a step-up to Supercar Lites is absolutely the right decision for us at the moment,” he enthused. “We have learned a lot and scored some great results – both as a driver and as a team – in Supernational competition, and we are super excited about moving into Supercar Lites and participating in RallyX Nordic in 2021.

“We did some testing late last summer, and our expectations are high. We will work very hard during the pre-season period on set-up and putting laps on the car. Like everybody else, we are aiming for the top spot on the podium. I know that certainly won’t be easy, but I have a really good feeling in the car and the driving style seems to fit me perfectly. I can’t wait to go racing!”

The 2021 RallyX Nordic campaign will begin at Nysum in Denmark on 1-2 May.
