Gronholm returns to RallyX for Holjes with Hyundai i20 Supercar

Finnish star Niclas Gronholm will race a Hyundai i20 Supercar in the opening two rounds of RallyX 2022 at Holjes in Sweden.

The 25-year-old, six-time World Rallycross Championship race-winner has contested selected RallyX events over the last two years. In 2020, the Finn competed in the Holjes double-header Magic Weekend and claimed Top Qualifier position in round one, before finishing on the podium.

Last season, Gronholm raced in four of the seven RallyX rounds and finished fourth in the Supercar standings. At Holjes in Sweden he claimed back-to-back RallyX wins, and also won on the second day at Oulu in Finland, while also claiming three Top Qualifier positions from the four starts.

Gronholm, the son of two-time World Rally Champion Marcus Gronholm, returns to RallyX for the double-header season-opener at Holjes with Gronholm RX’s Hyundai i20.

“The car won’t be too different [to 2021], of course we have some more experience than we had last year which should help in finding some more pace at Holjes,” said Gronholm. “It’s always nice to race at Holjes, it’s a track I enjoy but at the same time there is still some pace to be found, which I hope we can do something about. I don’t have any expectations really – I hope to have two good races and some good battles.”

With the third and fourth rounds of RallyX 2022 taking place at Kouvola in Finland, a circuit Gronholm has previously achieved success on in World RX, the Holjes weekend might not be Gronholm’s only RallyX appearance of the year, but for now, he’s playing his cards close to his chest

“It’s always good to race as often as possible,” he said. “We will maybe try to do second RallyX weekend in Finland also, but we’re not sure yet.”

Holjes will host the first two 2022 RallyX rounds on May 14-15. You can get tickets to watch the amazing rallycross action here.

All of the RallyX 2022 action will be broadcast live online and for free on RallyX TV throughout the seven rounds over four weekends. Commentary will be provided by Andrew Coley and Hal Ridge, with Molly Pettit taking the role as reporter.
