Marklund set for Hyundai i20 Supercar debut at RallyX Holjes

Two-time European Rallycross Champion Anton Marklund will make his first-ever start in a Hyundai i20 Supercar in the opening weekend of RallyX 2022 at Holjes.

The Swedish driver has signed with leading rallycross team SET Promotion for his 2022 endeavours, and will make his maiden public appearance in the former World Rallycross Championship car at Hojles on May 14-15.

Marklund has made selected RallyX appearances in recent seasons, last year racing Volkswagen Polo Supercars originally built by his own Marklund Motorsport team, run by Hedstrom Motorsport, but 2022 is a fresh adventure for the Swedish 29-year-old.

“I’m coming to a new team, a new car and I’m bringing the engineer, spotter and one mechanic that I had for the last couple of years, so it’s very important that we as a group, together with SET Promotion are working well together. We saw that already in a test we did in Riga this week, so I’m not worried. At the test I have to say that I have a really good feeling in the car and the team. We are speaking the same language when we are talking about the car, we want to achieve the same things and we want to work with the car in the same way, so I have a very good feeling.”

Last season Marklund finished second at Holjes, behind Finn Niclas Gronholm – who will also race a Hyundai i20 Supercar at the RallyX Holjes weekend this year – while he claimed another podium at Arvika in the RallyX season-finale.

“I’ve done a couple of RallyX events in the last few years. Holjes last year I really enjoyed, and even if that car at that point was a couple of years old, we were able to fight for top positions. That’s a nice memory of just going there to enjoy the race and that’s what I hope to do again this year. The track in Holjes is so good. It has a bit of everything – loose gravel, top speed, fast corners and also very difficult and technical parts. I think all these things combined makes it one of the best tracks that we have. When you have a chance to race there, you just go for it.”

Having finished on the podium last year, and feeling comfortable in the SET Promotion car from testing, Marklund has set out his hopes for the double-header RallyX weekend in his native country.

“Last year there were a lot of good cars and I expect a lot of good cars and drivers to be there this season, and that the level will be very high. I really hope we can go and enjoy the racing and show that the pace is there. Whenever I put my helmet on, I always want to win. A podium finish is the hope, but for sure we are going there to win the race.”

Holjes will host the first two 2022 RallyX rounds on May 14-15. You can get tickets to watch the amazing rallycross action here.
