Simon Olofsson takes his revenge

Even though Lukas Andersson took two victories in Nysum at the end of April, Simon Olofsson was able to turn things around in the first race of the weekend in Tierp.

Champion last year in the Supercar Lites category, Simon Olofsson was able to turn the first race of the weekend to his advantage on Saturday by taking his first win of the 2023 season. A performance that allowed him to steal the overall championship classification lead from Lukas Andersson.

Above all, since the opening round of the 2023 season, the Swedish driver has proven his speed, as he is the only one to have won at least one qualifying round in the three races he has contested so far.

“Since the beginning of the championship, we know that we have the speed to compete at the front and even if we were not the fastest in this race 1, luck was on our side on Saturday, explains Simon.

“I can only be satisfied with the idea of having been able to reach the end of this race by finishing on the top step of the podium”

Although Simon Olofsson was able to win a total of four of the nine qualifying heats this year, the STS RX driver also proved his consistency. With an average of 15.8 points scored in qualifying this year, he remains the best performer in the category in this exercise. Not enough to encourage the 2022 champion to relax about his achievements.

“We still have a few tenths to find for this race 2 because the pole position on the grid is crucial on this track. On Saturday, we were able to get this pole position but I have to improve on the first sector of the track in terms of driving as well as in terms of set-up. Nevertheless, the confidence is there and that’s the most important thing. We managed to collect important points for the championship and that’s what I want to remember”.
