The relentless Mats Ohman

After nearly three years without a single appearance with a Supercar, Mats Ohman surprised everyone by dominating the Supercar Pro-Am class twice in Kouvola last weekend.

Stages 5 and 6 of the RallyX Nordic in Kouvola undoubtedly contributed to make the Swedish driver the real hero of the weekend.

In fact, the JC Raceteknik driver outshone the predictions by leading the Pro-Am category throughout the weekend.

During Race 1, his performance in Q2 was already sublime. Able to set the fourth fastest time of the session, just behind Peter Hedstrom, Mats Ohman also claimed the fourth fastest lap of the Q2, just 0.196s behind Kevin Eriksson.

A standard he would confirm in the Pro Am final, when he beat the ex-MSport Ford Fiesta of the young Estonian Maiko Tamm for the top step of the final podium.

A performance he repeated the following day, this time beating Edjis Oss and Jonne Ollikainen’s Mercedes A-Class.

With the fifth-fastest lap of Race 2, Mats Ohman’s efficiency was astonishing.

An achievement that delighted JC Raceteknik boss Joël Christoffersson, when his driver managed five top-8 finishes in the Supercar category out of the six qualifying heats scheduled in Kouvola.

What’s more, in terms of pure speed, Mats was able to score five top-6 finishes out of the 10 runs he took part in last weekend. Proof that the experienced Swedish driver has lost none of his precision.

“I cannot really put into words what Mats’ results this weekend means to me personally and to the whole team. His smile after the final on Saturday was one of the best moments in my career, points out Joel Christoffersson.

“Mats has so much passion for this sport, he has done a lot behind the scenes that nobody really knows about and he is an amazing driver. For him to get his first Supercar win with us in JC is incredible. And then to repeat it on Sunday, is fantastic. After his amazing start in the Supercar Pro semi-final on Sunday it would have been nice to be in that final too, but we’re very happy”
