A true legend of the European Rallycross Championship since his debut in the Super1600 class at the end of the 2000s, Ulrik Linnemann couldn’t miss the Danish round of the RallyX Championship, which takes place in Nysum this weekend.
Ulrik Linnemann needs no introduction. The man with 11 wins and 28 podiums in the European Super1600 championship has long since established himself as a major figure in rallycross.
This weekend in Nysum, the Danish driver will be aiming for the second RallyX victory of his career, following his 2018 win ahead of Oliver Eriksson and Filip Gehrman.
“This event in Nysum is very special for me,” says Ulrik Linnemann.
I live 20 minutes from the circuit and I know every inch of it. I know where to calm down when I am in a fight with other drivers, but also the places where you have to be perfect if you want to get a good result.”
Driving a VW Polo that didn’t bring him the success he had hoped for in Sweden at the beginning of July in the first round of the FIA Euro RX1 Championship, Ulrik is hoping to use the Nysum event to reverse the trend.
“I just hope I can get a good result on home soil and in front of my home crowd. I know a lot of people will be there to cheer me on, but I also want to help the organisers attract as many spectators as possible. I know how hard they work to improve their track. They’re always trying to find new ways to get rid of the dust and create the best rallycross event possible and I’m sure they’ll succeed again this year.”
One thing is for sure, Ulrik Linnemann will do everything in his power this weekend to confirm his status as one of the favourites for victory.
“I’m confident about my chances of winning this event, but in rallycross speed alone is not enough, you also have to be successful and make sure you’re in the right situations. I’m going to take each qualifying session one at a time, hoping to put it all together at the end of each of the two days of racing.”
“I will try to stay as calm as possible. Last year I really gave it my all, but things didn’t necessarily go my way. So I’m not taking anything for granted. I just want to concentrate 100% on each run and have as much fun as possible behind the wheel. What I do know is that I’m getting more and more comfortable behind the wheel of the VW Polo and that I feel confident on this Nysum track.”
