Although he was far behind Lukas Andersson and Casper Jansson in the overall championship standings before Nysum, the two-time RallyX champion is now back in the title hunt ahead of the final weekend of the 2024 season in Buxtehude.
Having already won Race 1 with a maximum score of 30 points last weekend in Denmark, Simon Olofsson repeated the feat the following day by winning the final ahead of Casper Jansson and Tobias Daarbak, who continues to shine with his consistency.
Since the start of the championship, the Danish driver has taken no less than five podium finishes, making him, along with Simon Olofsson, the most successful driver in the category.
Nevertheless, with 60 points in Denmark, compared to just 33 for Lukas Andersson and 41 for Casper Jansson, the STS RX driver was able to pull off a real ‘hold-up’ in Northern Jutland.
From a 41-point deficit to Lukas Andersson before Nysum, Simon Olofsson now only has a 14-point handicap.
These figures are even more astonishing when you consider that the RallyX drivers have to deduct their worst race of the season from their overall points tally. A situation that benefits Simon Olofsson, who is now co-leader of the overall standings with Lukas Andersson, while Casper Jansson remains more than ever in the game, eight points behind his two rivals.
In other words, this final stage of RallyX on the unpredictable Buxtehude circuit promises to be more explosive than ever in the Supercar Lites championship.
Not only are Olofsson, Andersson and Jansson within eight points of each other, but Tobias Daarbak and Julien Meunier are also mathematically still in the race for the crown.
Admittedly, the Franco-Danish duo will need to pull off a real coup to beat the favourites of the 2024 season, but nothing is impossible on the Estering circuit, where anything can happen at any time.
This is all the more true as Tobias Daarbak will be able to draw on more experience in Buxtehude than his direct rivals, while Viktor Kristensson’s rise to prominence will be one to watch closely.
In his first outing at this level of competition at Nysum last weekend, the JC Raceteknik driver used Race 2 to secure his first ever final qualification and set the sixth fastest Supercar Lites lap, 0.249s behind leader Simon Olofsson.
