The RallyX championship may have had its final round in Buxtehude last August, but that didn’t stop some of its competitors from shining last weekend.
In the final round of the Swedish championship, held in Arvika, Peter Hedström claimed another national crown by winning the final ahead of rookies Filip Martinsson, Martin Enlund and Filip Thorén.
In the CrossCar category, 2023 RallyX champion Sebastian Enholm had already won the first battle of the season at Höljes in early July. At Arvika, the Speedcar driver added a second success to his tally, taking the top step of the podium ahead of Jimmie Österberg and Erik Nilsson, while Kalle Göthesson completed the list ahead of Fredrik Eriksson and Rasmus Persson.
This performance enabled Sebastian Enholm to add another title to his impressive list of honours, ahead of Jimmie Österberg and Erik Nilsson in the overall championship standings.
In Supercar Lites, Lukas Andersson took revenge for failing to defend his lead in the RallyX championship last August by claiming the national title ahead of Kim Andersson, Anton Söderholm and Robin Norrlander.
Further south, two former RallyX champions battled it out in Lohéac. Johan Kristoffersson was the guest of honour at the sixth stage of the French Rallycross Championship and won for the fourth time in his career on the Brittany circuit at the end of some thrilling finals.
Niclas Grönholm, for his part, had not been successful in qualifying, but the Finn recovered perfectly in the final stages. Despite a broken rear suspension, the Hyundai i20 PGRX driver managed to overtake several times to move up to second place in his semi-final. However, the laws of physics forced him to retire with just one lap to go, when an exceptional performance would have been within his grasp.
Julien Meunier, fifth in the Supercar Lites standings in his first season at this racing level, took his second win of the season in the French Super1600 Rallycross Championship.
The Skoda Fabia driver suffered a heavy crash in Q2 and was only 13th in the intermediate standings on Saturday evening, before setting back-to-back fastest times the following day to take a comfortable win in the final.
Julien Meunier, who missed the Faleyras event due to the RallyX championship at the Kouvola track, managed to close the gap on French leader Jérémy Lambec from 48 to 20 points with three rounds of the 2024 season remaining.
