Ronalds Baldiņš, who enjoyed a remarkable campaign in the 2024 RallyX championship, finishing second in the CrossCar category behind Elias Svensson, has announced that he is calling time on his career to concentrate on developing young Latvian drivers.
Indeed, while the RallyX runner-up will be competing in three different categories at this weekend’s final round of the Lithuanian and Latvian Rallycross Championships at Riga Circuit, the Speedcar driver, who has no less than two victories and ten podiums in RallyX, will be retiring from the sport in the next few hours.
‘I would like to thank everyone who has supported me throughout my sporting career,’ says Ronalds.
“We have been through a lot over the last few years, but my flame for racing has also been extinguished. I’ve had some great moments being lucky enough to be able to compete in Nitrocross. I fulfilled a dream by becoming the first Latvian driver to compete in Nitrocross, and I also took part in the FIA European Championship in my home town of Riga, at the wheel of a Supercar. I’ve had some great moments in recent years, when we were ready to fight for victory and not just for the pleasure of driving. If driving was all about relaxation, I’d have been satisfied with a walk in the surrounding woods. My future project will still be related to motorsport, with the construction of a track where I can pass on my knowledge and experience to younger people”.
