When René Muennich combines usual rallycross “business” with fun

At the start of the final round of the 2024 season, held in Buxtehude in August, René Muennich enjoyed his first visit to the RallyX championship.

There was no podium for René Muennich, but with the second fastest lap in Race 1, behind Robin Larsson, and a fifth place the following day, the All-Inkl.com team boss proved that he has not lost any of his speed.

Buxtehude has always been a special track for me, as it was here that I drove my first rallycross race almost 20 years ago. Since then I’ve always made it a point to come here at least once a year. So when the RallyX championship decided to add the circuit to its calendar, I had to jump at the chance,” explains René.

As a close associate of the organising committee, the German driver has always been keen to support the efforts of the local Estering club.

“I drive for fun, but I’ve always tried to help the Buxtehude organisers. This year I didn’t sponsor the event directly because the organisers didn’t need it, but I still give them a helping hand every year.”

A regular competitor in the Euro RX and World RX series, René Muennich has wasted no time in taking a short break from the World Championship.

“You can’t think of the RallyX championship as a national championship. It’s a kind of international series and I have to admit that it’s a very good championship. At the moment, I would even say that it’s probably a better series than the European Championship or the World Championship,’ admits René Muennich.

“And it’s a pleasant environment. The atmosphere in the paddock is the same as it was in the European Championship ten years ago. The budgets are lower, so it’s a little less professional than what we’re used to in normal times, but from my point of view, more professionalism doesn’t mean that the quality of the show will be better.”

“In any case, whether it’s World RX or RallyX, I like both championships. RallyX isn’t really an amateur championship. From a sporting point of view it’s a bit like World RX, but let’s just say they’re two different philosophies. RallyX is a different way of looking at rallycross and if I take a step back, I’d say it’s probably more fun to race in that context.”
