After finishing runner-up in this year’s Dutch Rallycross Championship in the wake of former European TouringCar champion Steve Volders, Jorrit Van Dasselaar is now planning to take advantage of the RallyX Championship’s expansion to the south to take on a new challenge.
With just six rallycross races under his belt ahead of the 2024 season, Jorrit Van Dasselaar has impressed in his own national championship.
The 34-year-old Dutchman finished ninth overall in his first season at the wheel of his VW Polo in 2023 and had already made a name for himself with three podium finishes in his three appearances.
‘Finishing as the runner-up behind Steve Volders is a very satisfying result, especially when you look at the names we’ve been able to put behind us,” stresses Jorrit.
‘To be second in the overall standings when we’ve only had six races in the sport before the start of the 2024 season is a very good performance, considering that I’m the only one to have taken three podiums at three different circuits this year.’
With Valkenswaard set to host the third stage of the RallyX South League in 2025, Jorrit Van Dasselaar is naturally working hard to raise the budget he would need to compete in a full season in the Open 2WD category at the wheel of his VW Polo.
‘Personally, and although it will obviously depend on my budget, my main goal is to compete in all the RallyX South events. The biggest challenge for me is obviously getting to Portugal, but I’m working hard to find solutions,’ says Jorrit.
‘Of course, the costs of entering RallyX are higher than in our national championships, but there’s also a TV package in return. In terms of sponsorship, too, RallyX allows us to look at wider markets than we normally do, and that’s undoubtedly more attractive to certain brands. So far, I’ve had a lot of positive feedback and I hope I’ll be able to achieve my goals.’
