A veteran of the French Rallycross Championship for over eight seasons, Mathieu Trévian built his career competing exclusively in the Division 3/T3F category.
With RallyX now allowing these vehicles to compete in the Open 4WD class, the former French vice-champion is keeping a close eye on the championship’s expansion into southern Europe.
Despite an impressive record of eight wins and 21 podiums, Trévian stepped away from racing after the 2021 season to focus on building and preparing vehicles for Division 3 through his company, S2M Racing. However, the Frenchman admits he is seriously considering getting back behind the wheel.
As a T3F specialist—working with tubular chassis vehicles and powered by naturally aspirated 3.5L V6 engines delivering up to 430 horsepower—Trévian welcomes the growing presence of RallyX outside its traditional Scandinavian base.
“For the first time, we have the opportunity to race outside France with a T3F, and that’s an initiative from RallyX that deserves recognition. In my view, it would be a shame not to take part in a few races when this opportunity is being offered to us,” says Trévian.
While still in the planning stage, the head of S2M Racing is already imagining the possibilities.
“Ultimately, there isn’t much to adapt on the T3Fs to make them competitive in RallyX events. The main adjustment would be fine-tuning the gear ratios to avoid any risk of the engine bogging down at the start” he explains.
“On a circuit like Montalegre, we’d also have to deal with the altitude, which is a challenge for our naturally aspirated engines. I’m not entirely sure how that would turn out. Still, I think this opportunity will attract quite a few drivers from the French championship. It would be exciting to race in RallyX events as it offers us the chance to explore something new”
“For one thing, it means discovering new circuits. I’m curious to see what T3F cars can do in RallyX and even more curious to hear what the Scandinavian drivers think of our cars.”
With registration for the 2025 season opening on December 24, Trévian hopes to use the coming months to prepare for his debut in the RallyX series.
“For me, this could be the push I need to secure a budget to compete in RallyX. I know some Division 3 drivers in France are already excited about this possibility, and I have to admit, on a personal level, that this challenge is very appealing.”
“I think RallyX made a smart decision by allowing T3F cars to race alongside traditional Supercars. As for me, I’m determined to do everything I can to get back behind the wheel. If I don’t manage to, it will be a real disappointment, because this is such a fantastic initiative, and I truly want to be part of it. Plus, the fact that there are two races per weekend and that cars can be shared between drivers might encourage others in this category to take a closer look at RallyX.”
