A former Supercar Lites competitor, Martin Enlund has established himself as one of the outstanding drivers of the 2024 season in the Open 4WD category. Finishing second in both the Pro and Pro Am standings, the Swede is well aware that he has yet to reach his full potential at the wheel of his Ford Fiesta Mk8.
Recognised as one of the most spectacular drivers in the RallyX championship, Martin has qualified for six finals and secured two podium finishes. Second best performer in the qualifying heats with 128 points, the Västerås-born driver conceded just four points to 2024 champion Joni Turpeinen.
A performance that gives Martin Enlund plenty to be proud of.
“From my point of view, I think the 2024 season was really strong,” says the 23-year-old Swede.
“Of course, as a true competitor, not winning the title is disappointing, but I have to keep in mind that this was my first season at this level of racing.”
“We had a lot to learn, especially as we did this project internally with our small team. For a first attempt, the result is more than promising. To be honest, I can only be satisfied with finishing runner-up in both the Pro and Pro Am categories.”
After four seasons in Supercar Lites – highlighted by a third place in 2022 and a runner-up finish in 2023 – Martin has been able to benefit from his experience in the category.
“Supercar Lites is undoubtedly the best training ground for anyone looking to move up to Supercar or Open 4WD. It’s the best advice I could give to any driver. Supercar Lites is the perfect way to hone your skills before moving up to the big leagues.”
Known for his aggressive driving style, Martin Enlund has thrilled fans throughout the 2024 season. However, the Swede is well aware that he needs to refine his approach in order to maximise his performance.
“The fans probably enjoyed my sideways driving style and I have to admit that I had a lot of fun behind the wheel of the Fiesta. Besides, it’s always great to be recognised by the fans as an exciting driver,” says Martin with a smile.
“Having said that, I already know that in 2025 I’ll have to slide a little less if I want to be more efficient. The good news is that I have adapted quickly to this category. Although these cars are extremely fast and powerful and require a lot of adjustment, I must say that I felt comfortable right from the beginning. I’ve always been able to drive the way I wanted to without facing any major obstacles. Now it’s just a matter of fine-tuning the small details.”
“These Supercars are easy to handle, but extracting those last few tenths is incredibly challenging. But I think we are going in the right direction. In 2025, I’ll just have to be a bit cleaner in my driving. I’m taking full advantage of the off-season to analyse everything I’ve done during this first campaign in the top category.”
From a technical point of view, Martin Enlund has no plans to part with the Ford Fiesta that has helped him make a name for himself in Supercar.
“This Fiesta is a really great car. We are currently working on further developments, so I hope we can be even more competitive next season. However, it’s always difficult to judge where we stand until we know all our rivals. Even though our Fiesta is a bit older, it is still very effective.”
More determined than ever to continue his progress in Supercar/Open 4WD, Martin Enlund’s main focus remains on the RallyX North League.
“Our goal is to at least compete in the North, but nothing is 100% confirmed yet. There is still a lot of work to be done, but if we stick to a similar programme as last year, we may consider adding more events to our season if budget and schedule allow.”
“However, this off-season has been beneficial as it has given me the opportunity to analyse everything in detail. There’s no doubt that with the experience I gained in 2024, I’ll be much better prepared when I return in 2025”
