The most decorated driver in the history of the Open 2WD category in RallyX Nordic, with three championship titles to his name, Simon Tiger has confirmed that he will be back for a full season in 2025.
With 17 victories and 19 podiums to his credit, the Swedish driver and his BMW E30 have become iconic figures in the Open 2WD class.
Last year, Tiger delivered his strongest campaign since his RallyX debut. In ten races, he secured eight wins and nine podiums overall.
“I’d say the results we achieved in 2024 were primarily the result of the hard work put in by our team,” Simon noted.
“Our main goal was to focus on reliability and avoid setbacks. That was far from easy when you’re competing against so many fast drivers. At times, I felt like I had a target on my back, but I managed to stay composed, and my outright speed also helped me gain the upper hand when needed.”
But while the Swede’s impressive statistics suggest a flawless season, Tiger admits that things weren’t as easy as they appeared.
“To be honest, we had to deal with several issues throughout the season with the car. We struggled with engine misfires in almost every round of the championship”
“We tried to fix the problem, but despite the adjustments we made, the engine kept cutting out in one way or another. That meant we couldn’t fully exploit our power as we would have liked, which was particularly noticeable in races like Älvsbyn and Estering. Our rivals were able to close the gap on us when they shouldn’t have been able to if our car had been running at its best. Nevertheless, it was enough to secure the title. Now our competitors now understand that 2025 won’t be any easier.”
This year, Simon Tiger will once again focus on the “North” championship, where he will face a formidable field of contenders.
“Among the key opponents to watch, there’s obviously Viktor Johansson. And if Lucas Gabrielsson manages to add a few more horsepower to his Toyota Starlet, he’ll be a serious threat as well. But it doesn’t stop there—there are plenty of fast drivers who are still working hard this winter to try and beat our good old BMW E30.”
One thing is certain: Tiger’s motivation remains as strong as ever as he gears up for his RallyX return in May, with Riga set to host the opening round of the ‘North’ series.
“Chasing victories is what drives me the most. As long as we can fight for first place, that’s all the motivation I need. Our goals for 2025 remain unchanged—we’re here to have fun and win races.”
