After competing in a few races behind the wheel of a Skoda Fabia Open 2WD between 2019 and 2023, Morten Bertelsen decided to return to CrossCar last season—a decision that proved to be a winning move for him.

In addition to a strong weekend at Nysum during the penultimate round of the RallyX championship, Bertelsen clinched the Danish national title in his first campaign at this level of competition. These top performances have now encouraged Bertelsen to set his sights on the RallyX Nordic series.

Morten Bertelsen is no stranger to the RallyX championship. In 2021 and 2023, the young Danish driver stood out in the Open 2WD category.

In 2021, he qualified four times for a final, including his first podium finish, and secured fourth place overall in the championship. He returned in 2023 to finish fifth, his best result, on home soil in Nysum.

However, his time with the Skoda Fabia proved to be short.

“We bought the car at the end of 2018, but our first season with the Skoda was plagued by numerous engine problems. In 2020, we took a gamble with a turbocharged engine, which helped us finish fourth in the Danish championship despite not running a full season. However, it became clear that the project was taking too much time. In the end, the fun was gone,” says Bertelsen.

“After selling the Skoda at the end of 2023, we quickly received an offer from the Jensen family, who were willing to provide us with a Speedcar. At first, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I quickly realized that CrossCar perfectly suited my needs.”

And with good reason. Morten Bertelsen, who secured the Danish championship title in 2024 with a total of five wins, has also made a name for himself in the Nordic RallyX series. In Nysum, he impressed in the second race of the weekend, finishing second in the intermediate standings and setting the fastest lap times in Q1 and Q2.

“I have to admit that I was quite surprised by my RallyX debut this year. The weather conditions probably worked in my favour as I’ve always been strong in the rain. My only frustration was failing to qualify for the final due to several mistakes in the semi-final”

“Nevertheless, this RallyX event was an excellent learning experience for me. It taught me a lot about myself, the car and how to set it up. I had a lot of fun this year, especially as I never expected to end the season with a Danish championship title. Before the season started, I thought I’d be aiming for a top 5 or top 6 finish, but getting my first podium in the first race really boosted my confidence. The rest of the season went smoothly and I managed to secure five wins.’

As a rising star on the Danish CrossCar scene, Morten Bertelsen is now looking to take the next step in his driving career.

“Our goal for 2025 is to compete in the RallyX Nordic championship and test ourselves against the big names in CrossCar, like Elias Svensson and Thomas Eek Murstad. We’re not yet sure if we can commit to a full championship, but it’s a serious topic of discussion, and we’ll do everything we can to secure the budget,” Bertelsen said.

“This championship naturally gives me ideas. I managed to beat Viktor Kristensson in the Danish championship this year, and when I see what he’s achieved in Supercar Lites at Nysum and Buxtehude in RallyX, it only strengthens my confidence.”
