A former junior CrossCar competitor, Vetle Try used the 2024 season to find his feet in the senior category, finishing 26th overall and qualifying for his first ever final at Nysum 2.
In just a few days’ time, the 17-year-old Norwegian will begin a new chapter in his racing career when he commits to a full season’s programme in the Euro League, where he aims to establish himself as one of the top CrossCar drivers on the international stage.
The son of rally specialist and former FIA World Rallycross Championship competitor Pal Try, Vetle will certainly be one to watch over the coming months.
A two-time top-six finisher in the Norwegian Junior Championship in 2022 and 2023, Vetle entered the RallyX series in 2024 with limited experience of the championship. As well as making the transition from junior to senior, he also faced the challenge of adapting to new tracks each race weekend – no easy feat in a championship as competitive as RallyX.
“I’ve improved tremendously in a short time since joining RallyX, thanks to the people who support me and the experience I’ve gained on the track. The journey has had its ups and downs and although we realised that our team was still lacking some key benchmarks to be truly competitive, I must admit that our 2024 season has turned out much better than expected”.
Accustomed to the dynamics of the junior category and 125cc engines in Norway, Vetle had to adapt his driving style to the power and demands of the senior championship.
“With this CrossCar I can’t drive as freely as I did with the 125cc in Norway. Stepping up to 750cc requires a much more controlled and less aggressive approach, which was a challenge to master in just one season. Fortunately I was surrounded by knowledgeable people who helped me overcome the difficulties I faced on track.”

One of the standout moments of his debut season in RallyX was undoubtedly his first ever final in Denmark last August.
“My sixth place at Nysum 2 was a real confidence boost. This category is full of talented drivers, so you have to fight for every inch. The road to the top is always long at this level of racing, but I believe – and hope – that we can be in the mix this year”.
Aware of the work that still lies ahead, Vetle is clear on the areas where he needs to take a step forward.
“We still have a lot of room for improvement on the technical side, especially with the suspension and the engine. I’m still working on fine-tuning my set-up to maximise the potential of my machine, but I’m happy with my performance in 2024. More importantly, I’ve gained a wealth of technical knowledge and experience and my goal for this season is to raise my level even further.”
One thing is for sure: the RallyX Euro League is an opportunity that the young Norwegian driver does not want to miss.
“RallyX is simply the biggest league in Europe. Winning the championship would be an incredible achievement and my biggest motivation is to become the best driver. I’ve always dreamed of competing on an international level and this year that dream will finally come true.”
Eager to take on some of the most iconic tracks in the rallycross arena, Vetle Try makes no secret of his excitement.
“The circuits I’m most looking forward to discovering are undoubtedly those in Portugal and Latvia. They look amazing and in Portugal the big kerbs allow for a very dynamic driving style, which should be an incredible experience. I hope to get some podium finishes and, who knows, maybe even win a few races.”
