A true icon of Scandinavian rallycross, Mats Öhman is set to make a much-anticipated return to competition this weekend on home soil in Älvsbyn, as part of the fifth round of the 2025 RallyX season.

And the legendary Swedish driver isn’t doing things halfway—he’ll be back behind the wheel of a state-of-the-art VW Polo Supercar, built by Kristoffersson Motorsport (KMS) and run by the JC Raceteknik team.

Paralyzed from the waist down following a snowmobile accident in 1998, Öhman drives using specially adapted hand controls. Over the years, he has become both a formidable competitor and a fan favorite, delivering standout performances in recent RallyX seasons.

In addition to this weekend’s race in Älvsbyn, Öhman is also scheduled to compete in the FIA Euro RX1 round at Höljes the following weekend.

“We’re delighted to be alongside Mats for his comeback,” said JC Raceteknik Team Principal Joel Christoffersson.

“There were talks of getting him back on track earlier in the year, but we all worked hard—together with Mats and KMS—to prepare the Polo to his exact specifications. His workshop is right near Älvsbyn, and this race really matters to him. I believe he and the car will be very competitive on this circuit. Just a few days later, returning to Höljes will be incredibly special for the whole team. We’ve found a solid solution with the FIA, and his car is now fully approved to race in the Euro RX1 series. I’m sure the fans will be thrilled to see him back. Very few people have as much passion for this sport as Mats does, and it’s a real privilege to have him in the team.”
