Romet Tsirna: “I feel it’s time to move forward”

Widely regarded as one of the standouts in the CrossCar category of the RallyX championship, Romet Tsirna is no longer hiding his ambition to take things to the next level.

Although the Estonian driver had a challenging start to the season, the KymiRing round winner has fought his way back into contention. Heading into next month’s double-header in Nysum and Buxtehude, Tsirna now trails RallyX North leader Martin Juga by just three points.

Still, the 2025 campaign may well mark Tsirna’s final season in the CrossCar ranks.

“I’m seriously thinking about what I want to do next year. There are several options on the table, but I want to take the time to make the right decision.”

While he remains fully focused on the remainder of the season, Tsirna doesn’t shy away from expressing his frustration with the technical limitations he’s encountered in the current class—a frustration that’s only fueled his desire for change.

“What’s frustrated me this year in CrossCar is not having the right engine. There’s no point in continuing if I don’t have the right tools. I’m not here just to drive laps. Even with a decent budget, I still don’t know where to find a truly competitive engine for this category. We tried over the winter, but the truth is we weren’t able to come up with solutions that matched our sporting ambitions.”

That experience is pushing Tsirna to seriously consider a move to the FC2 category, where all competitors race with identical technical specifications.

“What draws me to FC2 is the level playing field. For the same budget, every driver has the same equipment. The only difference-maker is the one behind the wheel. I have no regrets about my time in CrossCar—it’s been a great experience. Before this, I had only driven front-wheel drive cars, so discovering rear-wheel drive was exciting. But now, I feel it’s time to move forward.”

Last Monday, the day after the round in Älvsbyn, Tsirna had the opportunity to get behind the wheel of an FC2 car for the first time.

“Driving a four-wheel-drive car feels like the natural next step in my development. If I make the move into a new category, I want to start training this year so I’m fully prepared by 2026. I believe that within three years, I can fight at the front. That’s the goal. I’m not in a rush. I’ll take it step by step—but I’m genuinely excited about what lies ahead in the coming months.”
