In only his second season in the Supercar Lites category, Julien Meunier has already added another trophy to a career record that is growing stronger by the year.
Not only did the Frenchman claim the prestigious RallyX crown, succeeding Simon Olofsson, but he also showcased remarkable consistency throughout the season. Since the opening round in Montalegre, Meunier has been the top points scorer across the championship, collecting four victories and a total of eleven podium finishes.
It was a campaign that delighted both the driver and his OMSE team.
“It’s been a very good year for me, but also a very intense one,” Meunier reflected.
“We started strong in Montalegre with a win and managed to keep a good rhythm. Riga, on the other hand, wasn’t my weekend… leaving there I thought: ‘Damn, maybe I’ve lost the championship.’ But we bounced back in Finland, at Alvsbyn, then in Denmark and finally in Buxtehude. We were always among the fastest, even though I had some very competitive drivers right behind me. Maybe in the future we’ll get to fight each other again—at least that’s what I hope. Winning this title is, of course, a huge relief.”
In Buxtehude, Meunier delivered a flawless opening day before withstanding heavy pressure from Lukas Andersson the following afternoon to lock down his first international title outside of France.
Already a two-time French Super1600 champion, Meunier acknowledged just how significant this RallyX success was, drawing inspiration from past Supercar Lites stars like the Eriksson brothers, Kevin Hansen, Cyril Raymond, and Thomas Bryntesson.
“Winning a title in this category definitely has a special taste. It’s a one-make championship where everyone has the same car, so when you win in Supercar Lites, you know it’s not luck—it shows you’ve got the tools to compete with the very best. I was fighting against strong drivers like Lukas Andersson, who only a few weeks ago took second place in the Euro RX1 round at Höljes. That shows the level of competition I was up against.”
The season was as close-fought as it was demanding.
“The margins were incredibly tight this year. Supercar Lites is without doubt one of the toughest categories in rallycross. These cars are difficult to drive at the limit, but they’re the best platform to improve and learn. And when you’re up against the likes of Andersson, Roberts Vitols or Tobias Daarbak, you know you have to give absolutely everything if you want to finish in front of them.”
One thing is certain: Meunier proved he has what it takes to meet the demands of a category where there’s little room for error.
“This title is especially positive for my short-term future. I hope it leads to new opportunities. These are discussions we’ll be having quickly with the OMSE team, but naturally I’m already considering a possible move to FC2 next season. After two very instructive years in Supercar Lites, that would be the logical next step.”
