After nearly a year away from the paddock, Kenneth Konge made a spontaneous and unexpected return to the RallyX Open 2WD scene at Nysum, during the second round of the Danish double-header in August. Initially attending as a mere spectator, the Danish driver didn’t take long to give in to the irresistible pull of the RallyX championship.
“When you’re a racing driver, it’s always a strange feeling to be at a track and not behind the wheel yourself,” Kenneth explained with a wide grin. “I came just to watch the races, but that familiar thrill deep inside—the excitement that only racing can give—was simply too strong to ignore.”
The decision came suddenly, almost instinctively.
“One of the organizers came up to me and said, ‘Why don’t you take the seat of the driver who just pulled out of your category for Sunday’s race?’ All I needed was Andreas [Eriksson]’s approval. And that’s when you really see what makes RallyX special—and what kind of leader Andreas is. When I asked him, he just looked at me, smiled, and said, ‘Go for it.’”
By 3:00 p.m., the Dane had left the Nysum circuit and headed back to his workshop.
“I went home to finish the last few tweaks on the car. There was no time to clean it or prepare it like we usually do—just enough to make sure it could run. I pulled the truck out of the garage, and by 8:00 p.m., we were already back at the track,” he laughed, still amused by the whirlwind nature of the decision.
Without a professional team on standby, Kenneth had to rely on pure solidarity and a touch of Danish improvisation.

“We’re definitely not a pro team. I just called a few friends—including my neighbor—and told them, ‘I have a crazy idea… would you be up for doing some mechanics tomorrow?’ Thankfully, they all said yes. Even my old mechanic from my early racing days showed up and immediately offered to help.”
The following day, Konge reminded everyone that raw talent never fades. Setting the fastest time in Q1, he went on to record three Top 3 finishes, securing second place in the intermediate standings at the end of qualifying.
In the final, the Dane confirmed his competitive edge by finishing second overall—an incredible result for someone who hadn’t even planned to race 48 hours earlier.
“It felt amazing,” he said. “Normally, I’m a bit nervous before races because I always want to win. But this time, I came in unprepared and without pressure. If the car broke, it broke. If we weren’t fast enough, so be it. The craziest part is that, the day before the race, I didn’t even have a valid license. But that also shows how much solidarity there is within Danish motorsport. In just a few hours, everyone worked together to make it happen. From RallyX to the Danish Federation, everyone really played their part.”
Crowned Danish Supernational Champion in 2023 and third overall in the RallyX Open 2WD in 2024 with three podiums to his name, Kenneth Konge had chosen to sit out the 2025 season following the arrival of a new family member. Yet his surprise comeback at Nysum—and the level of performance he displayed on home soil—suggest that his racing story is far from over.
“We’ll see what happens in 2026,” Kenneth concluded. “But weekends like this clearly remind you why we do this sport. If I come back, it’ll be to fight at the front again.”
