Reigning three-time Supercar Lites champion, Simon Olofsson decided last year to inject new momentum into his racing career by shifting his focus to the FC2 category with the BAK40 outfit.
However, technical issues identified only late in the season prevented him from fully showcasing his potential and outright speed. Still, this was not enough to discourage the experienced Swedish driver, who is determined to use the 2026 season as an opportunity to return to the forefront.
Highly anticipated in both the FC2 ranks and the Open 4WD category last season, Olofsson instead faced a far more challenging reality. Throughout the 2025 RallyX championship, the expected performances never truly materialised, despite total commitment and unwavering dedication. The cause was ultimately traced to what appeared to be a minor technical issue, but one with major consequences, which was only identified during the very final round at Estering.
A situation that proved far from easy to manage for a driver of Simon Olofsson’s stature.
“Whether in terms of results or expectations from my partners, the 2025 season didn’t really turn out the way I had hoped,” Simon explains. “Deep down, I could feel that something wasn’t right, but I really wanted it to work, so I kept pushing.”
That determination, driven by a desire to do things properly, also forced Olofsson into a deep period of self-reflection.
“I tried a lot of different things, sometimes giving absolutely everything behind the wheel and pushing beyond my limits. I was fully committed to moving the project in the right direction. But at a certain point, I started to doubt whether this car truly suited me.”
That lingering feeling finally found a clear explanation after the final race of the season. Once the issue had been identified, a single test session was enough for Simon Olofsson to prove to himself that he had lost none of his effectiveness behind the wheel.

“After Estering, everything changed for me. There was a real breakthrough, and that’s what led me to convert my Supercar Lites into an FC2 car over the winter. I see this as a new sporting project, but also one with a longer-term vision.”
While the work is already well underway, Simon acknowledges that there is still some way to go before his FC2 makes its first laps on track.
“A lot of work has already been done on the car, even though I still have several hours to put in before it’s completely ready. The goal is to contest the RallyX North championship, and I also hope to enter the car in a few events in the United States, where the calendar looks particularly appealing. I’m also considering the possibility of renting the car for certain rounds.”
Clear-headed yet determined, Olofsson approaches this new chapter without undue pressure.
“In terms of expectations, I’m keeping things fairly measured. What matters most to me is seeing where I truly stand, with a car that’s comparable to those of my rivals.”
After a frustrating season, the Swedish driver appears more motivated than ever to prove that his talent remains very much intact.
