Jon Ny targets full RallyX North campaign

Now at the wheel of the BMW E36 that carried Filip Martinsson to three Swedish national titles, Jon Ny is preparing to make his first full-time assault on the RallyX North championship, competing in the Open 2WD category.

Having made several appearances on the RallyX stage in recent seasons, Jon Ny has decided it is time to step things up. After finishing 15th in the highly competitive SuperNationell class of the Swedish national championship, the Swedish driver has chosen to focus all his efforts on the RallyX North series. His 2026 campaign will get underway in May at Tierp Arena, marking a new chapter in his career.

It is a carefully considered decision for the BMW E36 driver, driven as much by the philosophy of the championship as by its high standards.

“I fully buy into the RallyX concept, so my move to a full-time programme is quite easy to explain,” Jon says. “Without wanting to take anything away from the Swedish championship, which is of very high quality, RallyX clearly operates on another level. The overall standard is significantly higher, whether in terms of broadcasting and TV production, organisation, or race control.”

From a sporting standpoint, Jon Ny is well aware of the untapped potential still hidden within his technical package, as well as the room for improvement that lies ahead.

After securing seventh place in the Swedish championship in 2024, he slipped slightly down the SuperNationell order in 2025.

“The potential of the car is huge, but I’m still a long way from exploiting everything it has to offer. Last season was only my second in SuperNationell 2400 in Sweden, and the results didn’t live up to my expectations, especially after a much stronger 2024. We also had to deal with several technical issues: sometimes the car worked perfectly but the driver wasn’t quite there, and sometimes it was the other way around. Even so, the support of Filip Martinsson and his team was invaluable in addressing certain problems, and I hope that work will start to pay off from the very beginning of the coming season.”

The winter period has therefore been used to thoroughly develop the BMW E36, which has now been fully adapted to meet the specific demands of RallyX North.

“In 2025, the car was still built to Swedish regulations with a 2.4-litre engine, as I was contesting both championships. That chapter is now closed. We have since updated both the engine and the gearbox, switching to a 3.2-litre, eight-valve Evo engine. It may not have been the most obvious choice, but the engine was available quickly, which allowed us to make the transition efficiently. At the same time, we’re also working on building a new team bus this winter, and with a tight schedule, you sometimes have to make compromises.”

Despite this step up, Jon Ny is approaching this new challenge with humility.

“I’m staying very grounded and still consider myself something of a rookie at this level of competition. Above all, the main goal is to enjoy it, while trying to make progress in terms of results. We’ll see where it leads us.”

Sixth overall in the RallyX standings last season, with two podium finishes from four starts, Jon Ny will undoubtedly be one to watch closely in the Open 2WD category over the coming months.
