After a successful first experience in the RallyX Championship last season, Tom Geenen has confirmed that he will be back in action in 2026, committing to the full calendar of the RallyX South series.

Competing at the wheel of a Volvo S40 paying tribute to former European Championship legend Ludvig Hunsbedt, Geenen used the 2025 campaign to join the strong Belgian contingent that chose to test itself within the RallyX framework.

Entering events at Montalegre, Valkenswaard and Buxtehude, the driver from Hoogstraten notably managed to secure a place in a final in the Netherlands — a result that proved decisive in shaping his plans for the future.

Enough to convince Geenen to take the plunge once again in the RallyX South Championship, which is set to kick off in April.

Building on that encouraging first campaign, Geenen retains particularly positive memories of his time in the European series, both from a sporting and a human perspective.

“My experience in RallyX in 2025 was extremely positive. The atmosphere really reminded me of the European Championships in the early 2000s. That’s something I enjoyed a great deal, and it’s why the decision to return in 2026 came very naturally, without any hesitation at all.”

A feeling shared by many competitors, who have been won over by the depth and diversity of the RallyX field.

“The very strong entry list is obviously one of RallyX’s main strengths. It’s also a great opportunity to meet and compete against a wide range of European drivers, which makes the championship especially appealing both competitively and on a human level.”

Beyond the sporting challenge, Tom Geenen’s project is deeply rooted in a strong family dimension, which remains the guiding thread of his rallycross commitment. The nephew of Belgian rallycross legend Jos Sterkens will be joined this year by Daan Aerts in Open 2WD, while young Jarno Van Glabbeek will line up in the CrossCar Junior category.

“RallyX is clearly a family adventure. My uncle Jos is still just as passionate and extremely involved within the team. He also has strong technical expertise, and we’ve learned an enormous amount alongside him over the years.”

That transgenerational involvement has been built progressively, season after season, through shared experiences on circuits across Europe.

“My cousin Daan was also part of the project from a very early stage. He worked for us when he was younger and was already traveling with us to races. Clearly, the rallycross bug never left him, as he decided to start racing himself last year.”

The family dynamic will be strengthened even further in 2026 with the arrival of another member of the clan on the RallyX South scene.

“This season, the youngest member of the family, Jarno Van Glabbeek, will also be part of the adventure in CrossCar. He’s extremely enthusiastic about discovering the RallyX South Championship, which reinforces that family dimension even more.”

From a sporting standpoint, the overall assessment of the 2025 season remains positive, while still leaving room for improvement that the team is keen to exploit.

“Overall, we have good memories of the 2025 season. The results were solid, but of course we want to do better in 2026 and continue progressing.”

That ambition is supported by targeted technical work, identified as early as last season.

“From a technical standpoint, we knew we didn’t have the fastest car in the field. The gearbox ratios can clearly be improved. On the other hand, after rebuilding the engine during the season following a faulty injector, everything is now working perfectly on that front.”

Several upgrades are already underway to further optimize the potential of the Volvo S40.

“During the off-season, we plan to continue working on the transmission, which will be further optimized. The rear axle will also be replaced in order to improve the car’s overall behavior.”

With those adjustments in place and a solid understanding of the RallyX Championship, Tom Geenen heads into the 2026 season with clearly defined objectives.

“For the 2026 RallyX South season, our ambition is clear. If we can qualify regularly for the finals, that would be an excellent result and a real source of satisfaction for the entire team.”
