A breakout performer in the 2025 season thanks to his third-place finish in the overall CrossCar standings, the JC Raceteknik driver will be one to watch closely this year.
Now considered one of the favorites, Vetle Try made his mark last season with a standout campaign: two wins and three podiums in total saw the young Norwegian deliver eye-catching results.
“Overall, last season came as a very positive surprise for me,” Try admits.
“We had a lot of ups and downs: strong performances in Riga, then more difficult weekends in Finland and Sweden, before returning to our best level in Denmark and Germany. I’m very happy with how the season ended, but deep down I always felt that we could bounce back, even after tougher periods during the year.”
Building on that experience, the Norwegian driver now aims to capitalize on this momentum and take another step forward at the start of the new campaign.
“I hope I can start this season the way I finished the last one. We recently completed some testing in Germany, and it went well. The Speedcar Wonder chassis is performing nicely. There’s still some potential to unlock here and there, but we’ll keep working on it.”
In a championship where every detail matters, Try is well aware that the level of competition will be particularly high.
“I know a lot of drivers are very well prepared this year. Carl Svedlund has joined us after winning the CrossCar Junior title last season. I tested with him, and he’s very quick. It’s going to be a competitive season.”
While some familiar names will be missing, the overall standard is not expected to drop, quite the opposite.
“Others, like Martin Juga, have decided not to return this year, but the drivers who were very strong last season are still here, and some are continuing to improve. There are also some very quick newcomers coming in, so I expect the level to remain just as high.”
Starting with the reigning champion, Thomas Eek Murstad, who has chosen to defend his title.
His return is not lost on the young Norwegian, who understands the challenge posed by such a benchmark.
“Murstad is the reigning champion, and I know he’ll be very fast. The competition will be very strong again. There may be slightly fewer drivers than last year, but I don’t think that’s an issue. If anything, the number of entries should increase as the season goes on. One thing is certain: having Thomas Eek Murstad back is great news. He’s a bit of an idol to me. He was already dominating this category when I started in CrossCar. When I was racing in the Norwegian championship, I looked up to him and wanted to be like him. Now, racing alongside him is a dream come true.”
Within the JC Raceteknik structure, internal competition could prove to be an additional asset, particularly alongside Carl Svedlund.
“We’re in the same team, so we try to learn from each other and help one another. I want everyone to succeed. If I see something that can help him go faster, I’ll tell him so we can improve together rather than work in isolation. I believe that when you help others, it eventually comes back to you.”
Now firmly expected to deliver, Vetle Try appears ready to prove that last season’s performances were no coincidence.
