Casper Jansson Returns to Winning Ways in RallyX

Still searching for his first victory since the start of the 2026 season, Casper Jansson went on the attack this Sunday at Tierp, claiming victory in the second race of the weekend ahead of Niclas Grönholm and Lukas Andersson, who also secured an important result in the championship standings.

While Timmy Hansen appeared to have done the hard part after dominating qualifying with fastest times in both Q2 and Q3, the former World Rallycross champion was ultimately caught out at the second corner.

Running side by side with Casper Jansson as the pair entered the circuit’s chicane, Hansen was forced into retirement. An opportunity the Swede would not waste as he secured the sixth victory of his career since joining the FC2 category.

The win allowed Jansson to end a run of several months without victory while further cementing his status as one of the benchmark drivers in the category. Despite a somewhat inconsistent weekend, the Swede once again delivered when it mattered most.

“It feels really good to come back here and stand on the top step of the podium again. The start was very tight with Timmy and we ended up side by side through the chicane, but we managed to fight all the way to the finish,” Casper explained after the final.

The Swede nevertheless admitted that the second event of the weekend had not been straightforward, particularly during qualifying, where he endured a few more difficult moments despite an encouraging start. After setting the second-fastest time in Q1, Jansson could only manage sixth and eighth in the following sessions, eventually ending qualifying fourth overall.

“It probably wasn’t the perfect weekend overall, but finishing with a win is extremely positive. Yesterday we didn’t have much luck at the start of the final, but we showed very good pace in the rain during the semi-final.”

After a strong opening performance in Q1, Casper Jansson then struggled to maintain the same consistency throughout the remaining qualifying sessions. A situation that nevertheless did not prevent him from relying on his experience during the knockout stages.

“Qualifying was pretty complicated this weekend. After a strong start in Q1, things became more difficult afterwards. But in the end, I prefer to focus on the victory. It’s important to show that we still have the speed. I think everyone already knew that, but this result confirms it once again.”

Behind Casper Jansson, Niclas Grönholm once again displayed remarkable consistency by securing his second podium finish of the weekend. A result that allows him to leave Tierp with the strongest points tally of the event.

Meanwhile, following Oliver Eriksson’s retirement in the semi-finals, Lukas Andersson naturally emerged as one of the standout performers of the weekend. Already victorious in the Netherlands at the end of April, the former Supercar Lites driver bounced back strongly after being eliminated at the semi-final stage the previous day.

“After yesterday’s disappointment, today feels like revenge,” explained Lukas Andersson.

“This podium is also a very important result for the championship because neither Casper nor Niclas plans to contest the full season. Once I settled into third place in the final, the goal was mainly to secure the result and avoid making any unnecessary mistakes.”

Competing against world-class names such as Timmy Hansen and Niclas Grönholm, Andersson nevertheless believes he proved he has the pace required to fight with the best drivers in the field.

“It’s very difficult to race against drivers like Niclas and Timmy. They are incredibly consistent and fast, exactly as you would expect from drivers of that calibre. But it’s also very interesting to compete against them. Overall, it was a really good day and we showed that we had the pace to challenge them.”

“It’s a huge opportunity to compare myself against the best drivers in the world. Racing against them also allows you to study the way they drive and learn a huge amount.”

In the Pro Am category, Viktor Kristensson claimed victory ahead of Romet Tsirna and Emil Sivesind.

In the remaining categories, Roberts Vitols was unable to resist the charge of Kevin Daarbak in Supercar Lites. The Danish driver secured his first victory at this level of competition ahead of Vitols, while Pontus Oskarsson collected his second consecutive podium finish of the weekend.

In Open 2WD, Linus Westman bounced back from Race 1 by defeating Jon Ny and Lucas Gabrielsson.

Finally, in CrossCar, Joonatan Ylilammi seized the opportunity to return to the front by defeating Espen Isaksaetre, while Oliver Niclas Jensen secured his second consecutive podium finish at Tierp.

In the Junior category, Iivari Mannisto once again dominated proceedings by taking his second consecutive victory ahead of Sebastian Isaksaetre and Minea Peramaki.
