While Alexander Lindeqvist appeared to have gained the upper hand at Älvsbyn following his victory in Saturday’s opening race, the Swede ultimately found himself unable to withstand the surge of Mads Larsen.
Regarded as one of international rallycross’s most promising young talents since last season, the Linnemann Promotion driver reached a new milestone by securing his first-ever RallyX victory in the Supercar Lites category.
Larsen had already hinted at his potential from the very first laps of the weekend. After setting the third-fastest time in the opening qualifying session, he also posted the fastest lap of the race, signalling his intentions for the remainder of the event.
The Danish driver then reinforced that impression by steadily raising his level of performance. Victorious in both Q2 and Q3, he dictated the pace throughout the day before capping off his weekend with a win in the Final. It was a commanding display highlighted by two more fastest laps, recorded in Q2 and the Final.
After a perfectly controlled Final, Mads Larsen took the victory ahead of Alexander Lindeqvist, while Kevin Daarbak managed to hold on to third place despite suffering a puncture.
For the young Dane, the breakthrough victory marks an important milestone in his career.
“It’s incredible. Taking my first RallyX victory means a great deal to me. This is only my second season in the Lites category, and the level of competition is extremely high. The drivers competing in Supercar Lites are very fast, and that constantly pushes me to improve so I can compete with them.”
The result was also the product of a gradual return to form following a disrupted start to the season.
“The two qualifying race wins we achieved today show that we’ve taken a step forward. I competed in the opening round in the Netherlands, but my repeated absences at Tierp and Honkajoki meant I arrived in Älvsbyn without the same rhythm as my rivals, who were able to keep racing and improving. Little by little, I found my footing and felt I was becoming more competitive every time I went out on track.”
Buoyed by his breakthrough performance, Larsen now approaches the remainder of the season with confidence while maintaining the same mindset.
“I’m now going to focus on the upcoming events in Denmark and Germany. I know we have the speed to win, and the objective is clearly to fight for more victories while continuing our campaign in the Danish Rallycross Championship, where we’re competing this year.”
Despite his success, the Linnemann Promotion driver remains grounded regarding his long-term ambitions.
“I don’t really set limits or specific targets in terms of what I can achieve. My approach is simple: give my best every weekend and fight for the win.”
After six rounds, Alexander Lindeqvist remains at the top of the championship standings thanks to a fourth consecutive podium finish. He holds a seven-point advantage over Kevin Daarbak, while Pontus Oskarsson sits third, 21 points behind the championship leader.
