In his rookie Supercar Lites campaign, Alexander Lindeqvist has established himself at the top of the RallyX North standings. Backed by a run of four consecutive podium finishes, including two victories, the young Swede heads to Nysum holding a seven-point advantage over Kevin Daarbak. It is an enviable position, but one far too fragile to invite any thoughts of playing it safe.

The championship lead is well beyond anything Lindeqvist had expected when the season began.

“The feeling has been fantastic. Before the season started, my only goal was to do my best, enjoy myself, and learn the category. Finding myself leading the championship in my rookie season is a real bonus.”

After finishing fourth and fifth in the opening two RallyX North races at Tierp, Lindeqvist left the first Swedish event of the campaign with 34 points. It was a respectable return, but one that gave little indication of the momentum that would soon carry him to the top of the standings.

“The first two race weekends of the season were difficult. Valkenswaard was my first event with this car, so we had several small issues to deal with. Things became even more complicated at Tierp. Under those circumstances, it was almost impossible to unlock the car’s full potential.”

The turning point came at Honkajoki. The Swede finished runner-up in the opening race before claiming his maiden Supercar Lites victory the following day.

“Everything changed from the very first practice session in Finland. For the first time, the car was working exactly as it should. I immediately set the two fastest practice times, and from that point onward everything started to fall into place. Once the car was properly set up, I was finally able to show my true potential and drive the way I wanted to.”

Lindeqvist confirmed that breakthrough at Älvsbyn by adding another victory and a second-place finish to his tally. Those results were enough to propel him to the top of the championship with four races remaining.

“A seven-point lead isn’t enough to manage anything. Kevin Daarbak and Roberts Vitols have several years of experience in this category, while this is only my first season. I have nothing to lose. I’m a rookie, and my only objective is to keep learning.”

His determination to avoid becoming distracted by the championship battle stems from lessons learned earlier in his career, when the pressure of leading a title fight began to affect his performances.

“When I was younger, I sometimes thought too much about the championship whenever I found myself leading the standings, and it eventually hurt my performances. I’ve learned from that experience. I stick to exactly the same routine as always, the same warm-up, the same discussions with the team, and I focus only on my driving.”

Winning the title could also have a significant impact on the next chapter of Lindeqvist’s career. Since beginning his journey in CrossCar, the young Swede has always dreamed of climbing the rallycross ladder all the way to Supercar.

“My dream has always been to compete in the Supercar category one day. Simply having the opportunity to race in Supercar Lites is already a dream come true. If I were to win the championship this season, it would probably be the best year of my life.”

The next step is already clear, although reaching it will require securing a considerably larger budget.

“FC2 is my next target. Financially, it won’t be easy because it’s an expensive category, but that’s the challenge I want to take on. Whether I win the title or not, I’ll do everything I can this winter to find more sponsors and continue my progression towards FC2.”

Before thinking about the future, however, Lindeqvist’s immediate focus is Nysum, where a seven-point championship lead leaves him with every reason to keep pushing rather than lower his guard.
