Roberts Vitols emerged as the standout performer of the Nysum weekend. The Latvian completed a flawless campaign, winning all six qualifying sessions and both finals to collect all 48 points available in Denmark. With four victories from six appearances this season, he has reduced the gap to championship leader Alexander Lindeqvist to 17 points and remains in title contention heading into the final two rounds at Estering.

Lindeqvist continues to lead the RallyX North standings, although his advantage over Kevin Daarbak has been reduced from seven points to four. The entry list for the German finale, however, significantly changes the championship picture. Only four drivers will contest the final two rounds: Lindeqvist, Daarbak, Vitols and Mads Larsen.

Absent from the entry list, Pontus Oskarsson will remain on 131 points and is therefore eliminated from the title race. Only three drivers remain mathematically capable of winning the championship: Lindeqvist, Daarbak and Vitols. This configuration, however, considerably reduces the Latvian’s chances.

Vitols Untouchable at Nysum

Having already dominated Saturday’s opening event, Roberts Vitols maintained the form shown during his previous appearances. He won Q1, Q2 and Q3, recording a perfect qualifying score of 150 points and securing the 16 championship points awarded to the intermediate classification winner.

His dominance continued in the final. Vitols took victory in 3:49.985, finishing 5.486 seconds ahead of Hugo Lundgren. Pontus Oskarsson completed the podium ahead of Alexander Lindeqvist, Mads Larsen and Kevin Daarbak.

The result allowed Vitols to gain 16 points on Lindeqvist across the weekend. Having arrived in Denmark trailing the championship leader by 33 points, he now sits just 17 behind and heads to Estering with the strongest momentum of the three title contenders.

Hugo Lundgren, Sunday’s Breakthrough Performer

Making his Supercar Lites debut, Hugo Lundgren established himself as one of the revelations of the Nysum weekend.

Sixth in Q1 and fourth in Q2, the young Swede improved throughout Sunday before claiming second place in the final qualifying session. Fourth in the intermediate classification with 13 points, he then confirmed his pace by finishing second behind Vitols in the final.

After scoring 14 points in Saturday’s opening event, Lundgren completed his first Supercar Lites weekend with 32 championship points, matching the total scored by Alexander Lindeqvist.

Daarbak Closes the Gap Despite a Missed Opportunity

Kevin Daarbak leaves Nysum with mixed emotions. After scoring 35 points across the two events, he reduced his deficit to Lindeqvist by three points and now trails the championship leader by just four.

During Sunday’s second event, however, Daarbak surrendered two points to Lindeqvist after receiving a black flag in the final.

Lindeqvist Minimises the Damage

Although Alexander Lindeqvist endured two difficult finals, his consistency in qualifying enabled him to limit the damage.

After scoring 14 qualifying points on both days, he collected 15 championship points in Saturday’s event and 17 on Sunday, giving him a weekend total of 32.

Lindeqvist therefore retains the championship lead on 153 points. However, after arriving at Nysum seven points clear of Daarbak and 33 ahead of Vitols, his two remaining title rivals now sit four and 17 points behind respectively.

The particular format of the Estering finale significantly narrows the possible championship scenarios. With only four cars entered and no semi-finals scheduled, the points distribution will be considerably tighter than at previous events.

The intermediate classification will award 16 points to the winner, 15 to second, 14 to third and 13 to fourth. The final will then award eight points for victory, five for second, four for third and three for fourth.

A driver classified in both phases will therefore score between 16 and 24 championship points per event. The maximum difference between the highest and lowest scorer will be limited to eight points per round, or 16 across the weekend.

Vitols trails Lindeqvist by 17 points and must gain 18 to finish ahead of him outright. Under normal circumstances, however, the Latvian can recover no more than 16 points over the two remaining events.

Vitols therefore cannot beat Lindeqvist through his own results alone if the championship leader scores the minimum normally available to the four drivers in qualifying and the finals. His title hopes depend on Lindeqvist suffering a setback, such as a retirement or a penalty, that would leave him below the normal minimum of 32 points across the weekend.

Daarbak, the Only Rival Fully in Control of His Own Destiny

Alexander Lindeqvist heads to Estering on 153 championship points, with Kevin Daarbak on 149 and Roberts Vitols on 136.

Daarbak is the only driver capable of beating Lindeqvist solely through his own results. He must outscore the Swede by at least five points across the final two events. If he gains exactly four, the two drivers will finish level and will be separated by their finishing positions in Round 10.

The Dane must also avoid conceding 14 points to Vitols. Should the Latvian gain exactly 13 points on him, they would also finish level and be separated by their result in Estering’s second event.

Vitols must gain 18 points on Lindeqvist to finish ahead outright, or 17 to force a tie. At the same time, he must recover 14 points from Daarbak, or 13 to draw level with him.

Lindeqvist Holds Two Mathematical Advantages

Lindeqvist will be mathematically guaranteed the championship, regardless of his rivals’ results, if he scores at least 45 of the 48 points still available. That would take him to 198 championship points, one more than Daarbak’s maximum possible total.

The reduced entry list also protects him against Vitols. If Lindeqvist is classified in qualifying and the final on both days, he will score at least 32 points and increase his total to 185.

Even with two more perfect days, Vitols could reach only 184.

The title fight therefore remains primarily between Lindeqvist and Daarbak. The Dane can still overturn the championship through his own performances. Vitols remains mathematically in contention, but his destiny is no longer entirely in his own hands.

Lindeqvist remains in control, but he cannot afford to settle for a conservative approach against Daarbak. Vitols, meanwhile, must maintain his perfect form while hoping for a setback for the championship leader.
