Brought to a halt last Sunday in Nysum during the Open 4WD final after a first-corner collision with Oliver Eriksson, Filip Martinsson has been working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure he’s on the grid for the 2025 season finale in Germany.
The former three-time Swedish Rallycross champion has no intention of relinquishing his provisional third place in the RallyX championship standings. With just a three-point cushion over Viktor Vranckx’s Peugeot 208, Martinsson knows the battle for the podium will be fiercely contested.
“At first glance, after the accident in the Nysum final, the car looked badly damaged. But on closer inspection, the damage was less severe than we feared. The team did an excellent job getting it back in shape and now everything is fully operational. We had to replace a few suspension arms, the drive shafts, and the intercooler — that was the bulk of the damage. Now it’s up to me to perform at my best,” Martinsson said.
Despite setting only the 12th-fastest time in qualifying, the Swedish driver remains unfazed.
“A driver spun in front of me during practice, so I had to naturally ease off. That said, last year we showed great pace on this track in the final, and I’m confident we can reach that same level again this weekend. The goal hasn’t changed: fight at the front and, if possible, go for the win.”
