Martin Enlund: “Sometimes, you have to be smart”

With a second podium finish this saturday in three races since the kick-off of RallyX Championship, Martin Enlund has confirmed his favorite status by consolidating his third place in the overall Supercar Lites Championship standings.

After setting the fastest time in Q1 and then claiming another top three finish in Q3, Martin Enlund made sure to score some big points for the championship by taking second place in the intermediate classification behind Simon Olofsson.

Able to put Simon Olofsson under pressure in the final by finishing only four tenths behind the winner of race 1, Martin Enlund is aware that he will have some arguments to put forward this Sunday in Tierp.

“I’m pretty happy with my speed on this first day of racing. Apart from Q2 where we had to deal with a technical problem, we were the fastest on track every time. It’s a shame because that Q2 certainly cost us the pole position advantage in the final. Apart from that, I can only be satisfied with what we have shown in this race 1”.

Although Martin Enlund has yet to score a single victory this season, the Swede is not planning to take any unnecessary risks. He is only six points behind second place Lukas Andersson, but he must avoid losing ground on Simon Olofsson, who has a 10-point advantage. That’s why Enlund has to be strategic.

“We have to keep pushing on Sunday. The main goal will be to prevent Simon [Olofsson] from increasing his lead in the overall championship standings. Of course I want to win the title, but sometimes you have to be smart to achieve that goal. I don’t want to get into a bad position that could cost me big points in the overall standings. My mission is simple for this race 2: to score more points than Lukas [Andersson] and Simon [Olofsson].”

“We’ll see what we’re able to do, but I’m convinced we can be faster than them on this track. In the final on Saturday, we had to deal with a difficult track that may have caused some problems for my opponents, but on my side, I was able to rely on a very efficient car and I intend to take advantage of that this Sunday.”
