Ronalds Baldins: “It’s not over yet”

After three consecutive races without a single podium to his credit, Ronalds Baldins took advantage of race 2 of Tierp to put an end to this unpleasant streak.

Still 13th overall before race 2 of Tierp, the Latvian driver made the most of the last race of the weekend to prove that he can be a force to be reckoned with this season. Fighting closely with Elias Svensson for the top spot in the intermediate standings, Baldins finally managed to wrap up his journey in Sweden with a second qualification for a final and a first podium.

“The first race of the weekend was complicated with clutch problems that never allowed me to perform as well as I would have liked, but we managed to get everything back in order during Race 2 where I was finally able to drive with no worries. It was a really good day,” Baldins said.

With 26 points scored in Tierp 2, the Latvian achieved his best performance of the season after the 20 points he scored in Nysum 2, a result that allowed him to move up six positions in the overall championship standings from 13th to 7th in the CrossCar category.

This is enough to boost the confidence of the very experienced Latvian driver ahead of the next event in Kouvola.

“We will try to keep the momentum going in Kouvola. We should have no problem performing on this track. What we really need now is to have a little more luck like we had in race 2 at Tierp.”

With only 14 points behind fifth place owned by Finland’s Riku Huuhka, the Latvian has no intention of giving up.

“We’re going to keep pushing as hard as we can and keep fighting for the overall championship classification. It’s not over yet. I even want to say that the championship starts now. There are so many good drivers in RallyX that a lot can still happen. It’s crazy to see how many of us can be in the same second on a single lap, but that’s why I love this championship. Nothing can be taken for granted”.
