No stress for Lauri Halonen

Second in the overall Junior CrossCar standings behind Mikael Uitto, Lauri Halonen will continue to follow his strategy as he prepares to defend his chances on his home turf of Kouvola for rounds 5 and 6 of the upcoming RallyX event on May 27 and 28.

With four podiums in four races, including a first victory in Tierp, the 13-year-old Finn will be lining up in front of his home crowd in a few days’ time only six points behind Mikael Uitto.

If the leader of the championship has made a strong impression by securing two victories in four races, Lauri Halonen does not seem to be worried at the moment.

“It is certain that we will have to improve again and again over the next few races but, on the other hand, I would not mind finishing all my races on the podium between now and the end of the championship because it is by following this strategy that I will optimize my chances of winning the title at the end of the season”

Second in Race 1 at Tierp, Lauri Halonen was able to make the right adjustments for Race 2 by scoring his first Intermediate classification win of the 2023 season and then managing to maintain his domination unchanged all the way to the chequered flag in the final. Enough to boost the confidence level of the driver with the Ydrefalk chassis.

“We changed the chassis settings a little on Saturday night before seeing the effects the next day,” Lauri continued.

“Everything worked much better as I felt even more comfortable behind the wheel while performing even better on the starting grid. Race 2 was really good for me. I made very few mistakes and that’s more than positive for the future. The next race will take place at home in Kouvola and it is obvious that I will aim for the victory anyway. The goal now is to do everything possible to reduce the gap to Mikael Uitto in the overall championship standings.
