Jens Hvaal: “I didn’t think it was possible”

A week after his severe disappointment at Buxtehude in the FIA Euro RX3 European Championship, Jens Hvaal took advantage of his first career outing behind the wheel of a Supercar to demonstrate his full potential at Grenland.

“Above all, I want to use this weekend to put behind me what happened at Buxtehude,” explained the 19-year-old Norwegian at the start of the weekend.

Indeed, having been deprived of his first career victory at European championship level following a technical conformity problem on his Skoda Fabia discovered at the end of the race, the Norwegian was definitely able to use his first experience with the JC Raceteknik team to take his revenge on fate.

Third in the Norwegian championship final, Jens Hvaal went on to win the Pro-Am category of the RallyX championship before taking fourth place in the Pro final behind Johan Kristoffersson, Ole-Christian Veiby and Olivier Eriksson.

“This weekend went according to plan, because the first objective was to gain as much experience as possible, and that’s what I managed to do. We had to deal with all conditions, from dry to wet, and even if it was a bit extreme for a first race, I can’t hide the fact that I learned a lot.”

Starting with this RallyX Pro final where Jens Hvaal managed to control the assaults of Kevin Eriksson.

“It was my very first race at this level of the sport, and I clearly didn’t think I’d be able to compete with such experienced drivers. It’s something I didn’t expect at all. To tell you the truth, I didn’t even think it was possible.”

“Honestly, I have no words to explain what I experienced throughout the weekend. What’s certain is that I’m not about to forget my Supercar debut. It really was the perfect race and just what I needed after what happened last week in Buxtehude. In that respect, it was a really good weekend”

All that remains now is to find out how Jens Hvaal’s adventures in Rallycross will continue.

“We’ll see what the future has in store for me. Now that I’ve been able to try out a Supercar, I make no secret of the fact that it will be difficult for me to go back. In any case, I hope this weekend can help open a few doors for us. RallyX Nordic could be one of the possible options for 2024, but we’ll think about that later. For now, I still have a job to finish with the Norwegian Super1600 championship as well as a few CrossCar events.”
