Ole-Christian Veiby back in top form ahead of Höljes

Having scored his second podium of the 2023 season last weekend in Grenland, Ole-Christian Veiby is confident ahead of the final race of the year in Värmland.

The Norwegian driver has finally put an end to his bad streak. After four races since the start of the championship, Ole-Christian Veiby had only qualified for a single final race, finishing second to team-mate Johan Kristoffersson in Race 1 at Tierp.

On the other hand, on his home turf in Grenland, Ole-Christian Veiby not only won the Norwegian Supercar Championship, but also returned to his usual high standards. Second in the intermediate classification, the KMS driver took it easy in the semi-final, setting the fastest lap of the race before falling just 0.001s short of Johan Kristoffersson in the final in terms of pure speed.

All the more reason to boost Veiby’s confidence ahead of the weekend.

“So far, it’s fair to say that we’ve been clearly lacking in success. In Denmark when the championship kicked off, my car wasn’t in top form, but I made up for it in Tierp with a good level of performance. On Saturday, we had a great duel with Johan Kristoffersson, and I think I could have done it again the following day if I hadn’t been hit in the rear in the semi-final.”

“Nevertheless, if success hasn’t always been there this year, I know that when everything works well with the car, I have the speed to be in the mix and this Grenland race actually allowed me to give Johan a bit of a run for his money. In the final, my best lap in the race was only 1 thousandth slower than Johan. Even if the weekend hadn’t started very well for our team, with a few small problems here and there, we gradually found the speed we needed, while showing consistency and avoiding falling into bad situations”.

Back in fourth place overall, Ole-Christian Veiby will now be pushing hard to enable Johan Kristoffersson to convert a second RallyX title in three years.

“Winning the Norwegian championship last weekend helped give me a really good feeling, and it’s the same for Johan as he’s put himself back in the title hunt. This weekend, I don’t have much to play for, but I’m going to make sure I help him as much as I can, because Oliver Eriksson will definitely be doing the same with Kevin,” joked Ole-Christian.

“Whatever happens, I hope everything goes well for us this weekend. With Johan, it’s a track we both enjoy, so I think it’s going to be a very interesting race.”
