Kevin Eriksson looks forward to an intense weekend

Kevin Eriksson, who had been leading the overall standings since the opening stage in Nysum, was forced to relinquish the championship lead to Johan Kristoffersson in Grenland last weekend.

Kevin Eriksson’s poor start in the final was enough for the five-time World Champion to relegate the OMSE driver to second place overall ahead of the final battle in Höljes.

All the more reason to step up the tension ahead of what promises to be an exceptional weekend.

“I’m now just two points behind Johan Kristoffersson, and if my calculations are correct, no matter what happens in this final race, the drivers positioned behind us can no longer overtake us in the overall championship standings,” points out Kevin Eriksson.

“Whether it’s Johan or myself, that means we can’t do any worse than second in the RallyX standings. So that should encourage us to take more risks than usual. Nevertheless, these risks will have to be calculated, as it would be a shame to give up a title to the competition following a mistake that could largely have been avoided. What’s certain is that this weekend promises to be a very exciting one”.

Although he performed well in terms of pure speed at Grenland, it was on the start grid that Kevin Eriksson ran into problems, particularly in the final, where the Swede lost precious seconds when the lights went out.

“I had a problem when the light went green. Despite that, I was still happy with my race, because I fought as hard as I could to try and save a few extra points for the overall championship. Admittedly, fifth place in Grenland wasn’t the result I’d hoped for, but Jens Hvaal defended his position perfectly. He managed to thwart all my attempts, and I have to admit it’s nice to see a young driver like him able to perform in his first race behind the wheel of a Supercar”.

“Nevertheless, I’m approaching Höljes with confidence. Last weekend, the level was really high in Supercar and we had a lot of fun behind the wheel. In the dry, we showed that our Hondas were able to compete for victory, and Oliver [Eriksson] was particularly keen to prove it. On the wet however, Johan Kristoffersson was far more effective. Honestly, we’re happy with the performance of our cars. Even if we can still improve on the starts, our feeling is very good going into this final weekend of the season”.
