RallyX championship heads north

The RallyX Championship, presented by Nova Motorsport, is pleased to confirm the addition of Älvsbyn to its calendar.

The legendary Swedish track will welcome RallyX competitors on June 29 and 30 for the third stage of the 2024 season.

Fans may remember the high-voltage duel between Kenneth Hansen and Martin Schanche during the 1994 edition of the FIA European Championship held in the county of Norrbotten, but it will now be up to the RallyX drivers to add to the legend of a track that is a must in the world of rallycross.

In addition to a track that offers a perfect balance between technical and fast sections, the Älvsbyn circuit also stands out for its first turn in loose gravel and its corners that allow for different lines to be used.

After Kalix in 2015, this is the second time in its history that the RallyX championship will head north to Sweden in a unique and particularly idyllic setting.

“As the RallyX championship celebrates its tenth anniversary this year, it’s a real pleasure to
confirm the addition of the Älvsbyn stage to our calendar,” says Andreas Eriksson.

“In addition to a rich historical heritage in the world of motorsport, we are coming to a region where the rallycross culture is extremely strong. With Tierp, Estering, Nysum, Kouvola and now Älvsbyn, our drivers will have the chance to compete on tracks that all have their own special characteristics”

RallyX 2022 champion Viktor Johansson, chairman of the organizing committee, makes no secret of his satisfaction at being able to host the third stage of the 2024 season on his home turf.

“We enjoyed a golden period between the 1990s and 2000s, marked by a round of the European Rallycross Championship in 1994, as well as numerous events in the Swedish Championship at a time when sporting legends such as Kenneth Hansen and Per Eklund were
at the height of their glory. So we’re more than happy than ever to return to events of this caliber,” says Viktor Johansson.

“We have been talking to RallyX for a long time about organizing an event on our track. After Kalix in 2015, there was a mutual interest from the promoter and our organization to bring the championship back to northern Sweden. I’m convinced that we will see some very high quality racing and I’m sure that the public will turn out in force to celebrate the return of RallyX to our region.
