New features for the opening round of the 2024 season…

As the RallyX championship will resume on 10 and 11 May at Tierp, all the drivers will have to deal with an exciting new competition format.

Instead of a classic Rallycross event, Race 1 at Tierp will take the form of a RallyX Sprint, with two special stages around four kilometres long.

While each driver will have to fight for the best possible time, the way in which points are awarded for the overall championship classification will be identical to a classic rallycross event.

For this first race of the year, the order of the two free practice sessions will be determined by a draw. As always, the results of the second session will determine the starting order for Q1.

In Q1, Q2 and Q3 the same points system will be used as usual, with 50 points for the fastest driver, 45 points for the second fastest and so on.

As always, at the end of the three qualifying sessions, the intermediate classification will award 16 points to the leader of his category (15 for the second, 14 for the third and so on down to the 16th driver, who will get one point).

Depending on the number of drivers in each category, the top 12 or top 18 will qualify for the semi-finals.

The three fastest times in each of the two semi-finals (or the two fastest times in each of the three semi-finals) will go through to the final. As usual, all drivers who qualify for the semi-finals will score points for the overall classification (six points for the first driver in each semi-final, five points for the second driver and so on down to the sixth driver, who scores one point).

For Andreas Eriksson, the decision to use a RallyX Sprint format for Race 1, before reverting to a 100% Rallycross event for Race 2, is first and foremost a way to spotlight all the drivers who will be fighting for the title in each category.

“For us, the RallyX Sprint format for Race 1 will allow us to take the time to showcase the drivers of the 2024 season via our live streaming on our Youtube channel,” says Andreas Eriksson.

“The fact that the drivers will be able to take to the track one by one will be a great way for the public to get to know the drivers that we don’t always have the opportunity to highlight under normal circumstances. The RallyX sprint format will also allow fans to get a feel for who the fastest and most skilled drivers are in each category and what to expect from the 2024 season. Race 1, which will of course count towards the championship, will therefore be a taste of things to come before we switch back to a 100% rallycross format the following day for the second race of the weekend.”

In addition to the SxS Nordic and Drift events, rallycross fans will also be in for a treat. While the first race of the RallyX championship will be held in a rally sprint format on Friday 10 May, the spectators will also be able to watch the first round of the Swedish national rallycross championship, which will also be held at the Tierp rallycross circuit on 10 May.
