Arvika to host Super Swedish Championship finale – with live TV broadcast

  • All SM champions to be crowned on RallyX Nordic bill at Arvika
  • Bumper entry expected for a unique event in unique times
  • Swedish national TV to broadcast SM semi-finals and finals live
  • State-of-the-art studio production returns for RallyX Nordic classes

The battle for glory in the Swedish Rallycross Championship will reach a scintillating conclusion at Arvika on 7-9 August, with the eagerly-anticipated SM Finals set to be broadcast live on SVT after being added to the RallyX Nordic presented by Cooper Tires bill.

In what looks sure to be the biggest rallycross event ever held in Sweden, the ‘Super SM Final’ will benefit from unprecedented exposure and coverage by sharing the stage with RallyX Nordic, a series whose international profile and prestige sky-rocketed earlier this month during the ‘All-Star’ Magic Weekend, which attracted motorsport heroes including Johan Kristoffersson, Timmy Hansen, Robin Larsson, Niclas Grönholm and Thierry Neuville.

At Arvika, the destiny of the coveted SM crowns will be decided over the course of an historic high-octane weekend, with competitors in all Swedish two and four-wheel drive classes set to duel doorhandle-to-doorhandle around the popular Westombanan track – Supercars, Supercar Lites and national categories 2400, RM2150 and Junior SM. With 90 entrants for the ‘All-Star’ Magic Weekend and more than 80 for each of this year’s SM race meetings so far, a bumper field looks guaranteed.

Befitting of such a unique event in unique times, the action will be broadcast widely both within Sweden and far further afield. The entire SM competition from Friday through to Sunday – comprising all races in all classes – will be shown live with Swedish commentary on SBF Play, complemented by a three-hour live broadcast of Sunday’s all-important semi-finals and finals on Swedish national television (SVT).

The third round of the RallyX Nordic campaign on Sunday will be simultaneously broadcast by NEP Sweden, following a similar model to the tremendously well-received Höljes production complete with state-of-the-art studio set-up and English commentary.

Jan-Erik Steen, CEO of RallyX Nordic Promoter, RX Promotion, said:
“We are delighted to be bringing the SM Finals into the RallyX Nordic fold at Arvika next month. I think it’s fair to say fans will never have seen so many rallycross cars and categories at a single race weekend before, and better yet, they will be able to watch all of the action live via SBF Play, SVT and the NEP global stream.

“Sharing the spotlight with RallyX Nordic will offer SM competitors and their sponsors a unique and unrivalled opportunity to grow their own profiles, and we are all excited to see how NEP will raise the bar again following their superb ‘All-Star’ Magic Weekend production. It truly is a win-win scenario for all concerned, bringing more rallycross to more people at a time when we are all yearning for live sport – reinforcing Sweden’s position as a market leader and visionary in the discipline.”

Magnus Krokström from Svensk Bilsport’s Rallycross Committee, said:
“We know many rallycross fans have been longing for a great SM finale weekend, where all classes are represented – and we had plans for this, but then along came COVID-19. Now, after a lot of hard work from everybody involved, we are back on-track – behind closed doors, but with a superb broadcast arrangement.

“It will be a really exciting weekend at Arvika. We expect an amazing SM Finals event, with spectacular driving and astonishing achievements from supercharged drivers. A key factor for all drivers will be the extensive media coverage. For those contesting the Swedish national classes, it will be extra valuable to be seen on the same scene as the well-known drivers in Supercars and Supercar Lites.”

Jörgen Ekwall, Marketing Manager at Svensk Bilsport, added:
“It feels really good that we can now, together with SVT, invite viewers to watch live rallycross, and the fact that the Swedish Championship Finals at Arvika will be hosted by RallyX Nordic will add extra spice to the whole weekend. It will be fantastic action!”
