A new format that changes everything for Viktor Vranckx

After a more than productive season last year in RallyX, Viktor Vranck hopes to take advantage of the evolution of the Scandinavian series’ racing format to take another step forward.

Able to deliver remarkable performances in 2022 at the wheel of the ZEROID despite having far less power than traditional Supercars, Viktor Vranckx is looking forward to the introduction of a Pro Am classification.

New for the 2023 season, the distinction between Pro and Pro Am drivers will allow the latter to have their own final. An adjustment that should allow cars that are not issued from the World RX manufacturers’ programs, beginn

ers or drivers with older Supercars to have something to play for with the opportunity to fight for the Pro Am title.

Viktor Vranckx himself, with his 100% electric model developing less than 380 horsepower, hopes to take advantage of the situation.

“It’s clear that the new format on RallyX is a game changer for me. Even though my car will still be less powerful than the traditional Supercars, I will be able to fight for something. The introduction of the Pro Am classification is therefore a very good thing for me,” said the reigning FIA RX2e champion.

Although Viktor Vranckx cannot compete with his direct rivals in terms of pure power, the 17-year-old Belgian driver admits that these inevitably mismatched battles have played a major role in his apprenticeship in the Rallycross discipline in 2022.

“Last year, it was far from easy to fight against real Supercars but, honestly, I have to admit that it was an ideal way to prepare myself mentally for the FIA RX2e championship. This season in RallyX has taught me to stay calm in all circumstances and never let my emotions get the better of me,” continued Viktor.

“I knew that I couldn’t compete on a regular basis so it made me focus on my own race and my driving rather than on my opponents. If I wanted to have a chance to perform, I knew the best way to do that was to focus on setting consistent lap times and it’s a strategy that has worked perfectly as the championship has progressed.”

“I think that this approach I developed on RallyX has helped me a lot in my season in FIA RX2e. These are simple things, but staying focused on my own progress and trying to improve every time I entered the track helped me to stay calm and relaxed when things didn’t go my way in FIA RX2e.

For Viktor Vranckx, this weekend’s RallyX kick-off in Nysum is a great opportunity to further his progression as a driver.

“The aim is clearly to continue to progress and RallyX is the ideal platform for me to carry out this strategy. In addition to spending as much time as possible behind the wheel, taking part in different championships gives me the opportunity to put my knowledge into practice on tracks that are different each time.

“We’ve already made a big step forward in my progression last year but I have to admit that I still have work to do. We have to keep moving forward. The level of competition will be even higher this year so it’s about going even deeper into the details.”

“This winter we focused on the driving, trying to improve my feeling on different surfaces and tracks. This has included me getting more mileage on tarmac in karting but also getting more experience on ice. In any case, I know that my coach Guillaume De Ridder has no intention of letting up. He will continue to push me to the limit”.
