Elias Svensson: “This is the example to follow”

Elias Svensson came very close to winning the CrossCar title in 2023, but will be looking to reverse the trend when the RallyX championship resumes in May.

After suffering a puncture at Höljes that ruined his last chance of taking the overall lead, the Swede is naturally eager for revenge.

But beyond the disappointment he felt last September, Elias makes no secret of the valuable lessons he learned from that painful experience.

“It was difficult, but at the same time it taught me a lot about how to build a championship. Even if I would have preferred to win the title, I learned a valuable lesson, so I might as well try to see things in a positive light rather than dwell on bad memories,” Elias Svensson points out.

Although the Casmat driver was one of the fastest in 2023 in terms of pure speed, along with Thomas Eek Murstad, Sebastian Enholm’s extreme regularity and consistency in winning the title did not leave Elias Svensson completely insensitive.

“Of course Sebastian’s performance is an inspiration for me and I intend to take a similar approach this year. I have to keep in mind that I’m not here to win every race in the championship and that my main goal is to win the title at the end of the season. I can’t deviate from that mindset. That’s why aiming for the top 5 every weekend, like Sebastian did in 2023, is clearly the way forward.”

A wisdom and a sense of balance that remain extremely subtle elements in a category where more than twenty drivers fight in the same second every weekend.

“All the drivers who make up this championship are very fast, so it’s not easy to find the line between the right level of attack and that which consists of minimizing your risk-taking. The fact that there are around twenty of us in the running for a place in the final every weekend obviously complicates things, but I’ve been working hard on my physical preparation since the start of the off-season. I know I have the speed to win races, and I’ll be ready to fight for the top spots again in 2024. The key for me will be to make the right decisions at the right time.”
