Maiko Tamm returns with big ambitions

Last season’s winner in the Open 4WD Pro Am category, Maiko Tamm, will be stepping up a gear this year as he attempts to become one of the favorites for the Pro Championship.

After a particularly remarkable rise to the top, with two Estonian Supercar Championship titles in 2022 and 2023, coupled with a prestigious RallyX Championship crown at the wheel of the TT Motorsport team’s ex-MSport Ford Fiesta, Maiko Tamm will be looking to continue his development at the highest level, with a focus on the Open 4WD Pro category.

“I will continue the adventure with Ivo Traubergs and TT Motorsport. The Ford Fiesta was completely rebuilt during the off-season. However, since the car was already competitive, we only had to make a few small improvements,” says Maiko.

Last season Maiko Tamm was consistent with 14 top 8 finishes out of a total of 20 qualifying heats, he also qualified twice for a Pro final and took two wins for a total of five podiums in the Pro Am category.

“We have progressed step by step with the team. The fact that we won the Pro-Am title last season and the experience we’ve gained gives us a good reason to set our sights even higher this year. I know that I’ve got a strong team on my side, one that is well-equipped to fight for the Pro title. Trying to win this championship will take a lot of determination and hard work, but I believe that if I keep a good attitude we can achieve this goal. Even though nothing will be easy, I intend to do everything I can to achieve it.

As proof, Maiko Tamm will have to deal with tracks like Älvsbyn or Buxtehude, where the Estonian driver has no experience whatsoever. An opportunity that the Open 4WD Pro-Am 2023 champion intends to use to highlight the improvements he has made since last season.

“If I’m back in the RallyX championship, it’s because this series is the best way for me to continue my development as a driver. This championship brings together so many good teams that it helps to increase the level of competitiveness of RallyX”.

“That is why I enjoy this championship so much. Beginners can compete against the most experienced drivers, some of whom are among the best in the world. It really is the ideal platform for younger drivers to take their development to the next level.

“This year I’ll have to deal with two new tracks that I know absolutely nothing about. It’s going to be a real challenge that will allow me to see how quickly I can adapt to a new environment by trying to find the best lines to maximize my top speed”.

In a championship reshaped by the emergence of the young guard led by Martin Enlund, Filip Martinsson and Jens Hvaal, Maiko Tamm will certainly be one to watch this year.
